I myself have been keeping the fact minimal among my friends, considering I'm unsure of how they might react.
Anybody in a similar situation?

Most of my friends know I have "some kind of weird hobby" but other than that I don't think the know more.

Not one of my friends knows. I'm not sure if i will reveal in the future... I don't really care if my friends are cool with it or not. But it's relatives i'm more concerned about :S
Ironically, i had a furry friend long before i was even active online, but i never revealed it to him, and he has suddenly vanished for many years.

Pretty much everyone knows. Most of my friends are furries, and for those that aren't, they know as well. I never went out of my way and said "Hey you know I'm a furry :3" I don't keep it a secret, for sure, but I also don't go around bragging about it. I'm proud to be, don't get me wrong, but that's for me to feel and not rub in the face of everyone around me.
I just do as I do and answer honestly when asked. If someone has a problem with it, I let them go about their business and just leave. Luckily, I haven't had anyone flip their shit about it, but I know someone will in the future. Too bad for them I don't really care and I have a perfect motor assembly to help me vacate their vicinity, or in the case of an online incident, a handy little x.
My father knows and respects my interests, my Grandmother couldn't care less and loves me all the same, my siblings all don't see a problem with it, and I still hold a good share of non-furry/non-brony friends (who shall not be named here) and none of them have anything against it.

Most of them have known for years. A few I haven't told, but that isn't out of not wanting to, but more because they wouldn't care either way. They have no interest in the fandom, so why care?
I've actually turned one of my friends furry by accident, hilariously, so that's a thing. But yeah, I'm fairly open about what I like. Don't see any reason to have shame in liking dogs or cats that look human. And if anyone makes the whole sexualisation argument, I just idly point out that the internet sexualises anything. Doesn't mean I condone it, it's just a thing we're all aware of.

I don't see how it makes anything suspicious. I haven't literally told them that "Ohai, I'm a furry, it's a weird thing", it's more like I don't hide it but I don't shout it out to everyone either. I have two traditional drawings of Cheza on a wall and all my fursuit heads are "out in the open", mostly because I don't really have anywhere else to keep them, so those who have visited me probably assume it's got something to do with a hobby or something. If people were to ask me "Are you a furry?" I'd ofc tell them, but otherwise I don't really see a reason to do so.

It's a hobby, so I treat it as one. I'm sure my friends have figured it out considering I have 6 shirts with fablefire's glorious artwork and a fox-tribal mtg deck. It's nothing I'm really trying to hide. Treating it as a dark secret just makes it seem like a bad thing.

Seriously, this deep in, we have deathrays, and genetic modification, and lots and lots of cats.
OT: Quite seriously, there is a sort of "valley of hidden" you want to be in, too hidden, and when the secret gets out people assume the worst, not hidden enough, and everyone knows, and those who don't know you well assume the worst due to the media.

But the thing is that I never call it "a weird thing", I only assume that's what people make of it from looking at my stuff without me really saying anything at all xP
Imo the whole fandom sounds so strange that no matter how you tell people about it or try to explain it they'll end up googling it anyway if they get curious enough.
At least that's what I do when people tell me about stuff that somehow end up catching my interest. That's kinda how I found out about the fandom xP

My friends might know about it, because I'm in some furry related Steam groups on my main account, but I never told anyone about it directly as I'm scared of their possible reactions.

I think the biggest thing about "coming out" as a furry is that it's really not necessary. Yes, you can be proud of it, but there really doesn't need to be a time where you tell anyone if you really don't want to. Don't feel pressured.
If you do want to tell someone, don't treat it like it's weird. Explain it simply, and say why you like it. True friends will understand and most family members might. Everyone likes different things, and that's okay too.
However, if someone thinks it's different in a bad way, seems uninterested, or just doesn't care, don't take it offensively. Not everyone will understand and not everyone will be as eager as you are. Just brush it off, remember that it's normal to be you, and don't worry about it.

Recently
I explained to my family and friends found out that I'm a furry.
Family doesn't care, while friends keep asking me about the fandom, my fursona, why am I one and keeps hating me and saying I'm a weirdo, but I don't give a fu*k.

Yes some of my friends do especially those who are furry them selves... But when my non fur friends got to know that i am a Fur.. i got dumped almost eminently by almost everyone because they though i was crazy or something :(

I think people already know I'm interested in furry since I always have two mini fox tails attached to the side of my bag or right side of my trousers with chains, and sometimes wear a Lapfox teeshirt. I also clearly show I'm a fur on Facebook, you just have to look at who I'm friends with or my interests.
But I've never announced it like "Hey everyone, I'm a furry", I like to let other people guess it. I think I'm gonna buy a paw necklace this summer and an extra tail for cosplaying (big tails I only wear on certain occasions).

Yes, but I wouldn't say they are my close friends. I have "school friends" whom have recently graduated and I don't believe I'll see them again. I have a hard time making close friends and keeping them.

No its because everyone in my school is a closed minded bigot. And I wouldn't be "sacrificing" their trust in furries. It would be a normal informative website. And my social anxiety prevents me from sticking up for myself in any way. If they think its weird there's nothing I can do. And why would that be making them think normal furries don't exist?

My one friend found out because we were trying to connect my Live account to her Xbox and I had emails from this forum and she was like "what's that?" And I'm like "well." And, yeah, she seemed okay with it after awhile.
I have a few family members who are furries now because of me. Yay! Idk. But yeah.

I don't advertise it, but I also don't hide it. All my friends that are good friends know it. I don't know. I don't exactly feel the need to hide it. It's more of a 'take it or leave it' sort of thing. **censor** 'em if they don't like it, I don't need that shallow bs in my life. I probably only feel this way, though, because as someone who is trans, people can't react to my being furry any worse than anyone has to my being trans.

Two closer friends do, one a furry one a kinda furry kinda ehhhhh whatever. Fam doesnt know anything about furry stuff except brother who's weirded out by it so i wont tell him either.

Before I met most of my friends now I only talked to one person, but yeah, he knew.
He always gave me crap for it but it was insincere and he's told me a few times he actually thinks it's pretty cool, just not his niche.
But of the 15 or so people I hang out with now, about 8-10 are furries.
...We still poke fun at each other for it.

No one knows it's just never really occurred to me to tell anyone , well I definitely have givin hints to me being a furry unintentionally; like when ever I'm on the Internet with freinds and I see a fursona or something of that description I get excited, so they might have figured it out or not. Besides just little mannerisms like that no one knows.

Absolutely nobody outside of this forum knows, nor am I going to tell them that I'm a furry. I try to keep that hidden, since some friends that I know, especially online, have a problem with furries.

Not many people know, and if they do know I'm not one to talk about it unless it's brought up. I never have really told anyone directly, they just look in my sketchbook and figure it out. None of them really care about my furry interests anyway and that may be for the better.

Only a small handful of people know. One I told because I knew she probably would think it was cool, one I told after he had a negative conversation within earshot about furries who later apologized and asked me about it, and one is my partner so full disclosure there pretty much. She and I joke about it and it isn't really an issue. I am more or less nonchalant about it all when talking about it with other people. For me it isn't so much a lifestyle but is instead a creativity thing so I guess that is easier for most people to accept.

I've been drawing anthro characters since fifth grade or so, and most people who looked in my sketchbook and saw them were usually just like "oh, that's interesting/neat/etc." I don't think furries were really well know where I grew up ^^'
But nowadays and starting college there will probably be more people who know about it. I don't really mind if others know unless they're really negative or only believe in stereotypes. For me also it's very much a creative activity, and a little bit of community as well.

I feel like I'll be the only who says this but anyone close to me eventually finds out (apologies if there is someone else who did say this). I be the first to admit I really really don't have a healthy attitude when it comes to being a furry I'm a closet fur I suppose it's how I am. When people do find out I'm not to happy about it and my next question is usually "who told you" or "how did you find out." I do view being a furry as a "dark secret" but that's mainly because it not just "oh I just like the artwork" it's "I love the artwork ;) " But I recognized it as not just being about that. It's also about the great community thats very accepting which why I joined these forums to help become a part of that accepting community. That can be my outlet to try and have a healthier relationship with *ehem* "weird hobby." I know some might hate that I would say that it's weird but you gotta admit outside looking in it's really strange just like sports (seriously how the *bleep* does football work again XP ).

I really don't talk to anyone, other than on forums here and there. All the people I knew back in high school are gone, and the few friends I had after that have also moved on. And I have anxiety, so going out to meet new people isn't exactly my top priority. :S
But I was hoping to maybe try to meet up with any other furries I could find around my town, so maybe I will have some friends soon, and they'll automatically know I'm a furry because we'll be at a furry meet. :P

All my friends know, and are cool with it. I'm fortunate to be surrounded by people who are relatively educated, open-minded, and mature, so I don't have to worry about being ridiculed by the people closest to me.
I don't think I've ever come out to my parents, but considering it took my dad 8 years to come to grips with the fact I have a boyfriend, I'm in no hurry to further complicate things. Besides, he's not a huge part of my life, and I barely speak to my mom, so there's really no reason to tell them.
My sister knows though, and occasionally tells me when she meets another furry in our hometown.
Never met any of them though.

one friend is fine though because he has a cousin that has a fursuit and write fanfiction...
My family doesn't know but i don't plan to, and i have met no known furry face to face..

2 of my friends know, the good thing is that their my best friends. And it didn't shock em. One said that she would expect me to be interested in furries, and the other one said that furries were kinda creepy. But I was able to convince her that they weren't. I'm not so worries about telling friends I've known for years, I'm worried about telling family :$

Lately I've stopped caring if people find out. If they're not into it, fine. If you're gonna judge me for it, you're not worth my time as a friend. I'm not running around talking about it but if they see me on the forums and ask I tell them.

I'm pretty sure that just one or two friends know I'm a fur. They're okay about it though, they told me they were expecting me to start randomly sending them furry RP commands (eg. "/me licks your face") out of force of habit. I cracked up at that and had to explain what a furry actually was.
But, there is absolutely no way I'm telling them I'm part of a furry forum, though. That would be the end of me. <.<

I have a good friend that knows, but other than that, all that my other friends know is that I draw and sculpt a lot of "animal people". Then my family knows I have a lot of interest in animals and nerdy stuff, they don't really care. I'm not like "I'm a furry lol" or advertise that anywhere, but if they were to ask, I'd prolly say yeah. I don't know if they know what a furry is.
Now, my husband's side of the family is less... imaginative... and find my sculpture and artwork weird or "different"... they always go "Oh... that's... what she sculpts?! Okay, I guess..." or "it's kind of demonic..." LOL... my husband just shrugs at them. I mean, I personally, don't understand how anthro characters are so weird. My hubby is mostly ok with it, but he thinks fursuits are weird (little does he know, I want to build a partial bwahahaha). If they were to ask, I might deny it, simply because they already think I'm strange enough and they gossip a LOT... I just wouldn't want to hear it. :P

I wanted to test the waters with my boyfriend last night and I said "You know, I think I'm going to be a furry." and his response was pulling a face like he'd just seen something painfully awkward on TV (for example, ANY scene from The Office (uk)) and he said "Yeah... Don't." and I was like "What?" and he just kept saying 'Don't". He didn't say it in a nasty or serious tone, just like a 'that's silly' tone. But either way, it looks like I've hit a brick wall on that one. For now.
I also told my friends, but not in person, just in a joint conversation on Facebook (It's how we generally keep in contact, we don't meet up often anymore). But again, just testing the waters, I didn't say "I'm furry", I just mentioned that I wanted a fursuit (I didn't call it a fursuit, I said "You know furies? I want a suit like that"), but sorta justified it by saying I really wanted to 'cosplay' but with a character I've made myself, and that I'd rather wear a mask because otherwise I'd get self concious and wouldn't be able to enjoy myself.
One of them said "That sounds cool" and nothing else (she's usually the chatty one) and I know that's her stock response for 'I'm not really interested'. The other friend just didn't say anything. Not even to make a sarcastic joke (that's the way she is, and I wouldn't change her for the world lol) so I don't know really.
I think they'll just forget about it. But hey, it's out there.

None of my friends know. If they did, they'd be bugging me about it CONSTANTLY. My family doesn't know either, cuz I don't really think it's relevant to tell them. :/ I don't really bring it up, but I don't really try not to.

A friend of mine has been slightly exposed to drawings of Gravedigger, because naturally as the monster I feel when angry, he has seemed to have taken over Armonia's throne for my mood about myself. But back to the point. The friend doesn't know I'm a furry, and she'll probably think it's really cool and won't tell a soul. I'll have to tell her eventually, but for right now "I have a lot of creativity with drawing the stuff that I do and it always looks cool." (Some sort of quote or whatever. She said something similar to me once.)

I suppose I do wish in some small way that I did have a furry friend offline just to chat with. Some people do know I am furry (people who I knew would be fine with it). Still, I don't really talk about it with them since it isn't their thing. I don't talk to people about my other hobbies that they don't really get, unless they ask of course. Why ramble at people who aren't into it when they likely don't get it and don't even really care? Knowing somebody who is actually a furry would probably have a perk or two.

Psh...heck yes! I have never been afraid of what people think of me because I know who I am, I like being "weird" and "different", and if anyone has a problem with who I am then what's the point of being friends with someone who doesn't like you. Never hide yourself because true friends care about you and should like you for who you are. ^_^

At this point everyone does :3 they just kinda found out by unlucky/lucky accidents :) one time i was shearing my Skype with a friend :) to teach him to setup game servers for Minecraft, he just kinda randomly saw that i was on TFF and started asking about it.. when he found out he was like "Oh really! thats freaking amazing dude..." and i was just like "O.. okay..." :D yeah yeah... Victor is a real fluff :) just like me :P
