Title: Making friends
Post by: xCreepyMouse on November 21, 2016, 06:31:44 AM
I feel like I'm not very good at making friends. As well as keeping them. It may be due to my social anxiety and autism. But I'm not sure. I just wish I could make friends as easily as others online and offline. I'm very needy and clingy, which tends to push people away. I get lonely easily.

Any tips? I have trouble making and keeping conversations going, although I am getting better.

Kind of difficult for me to advice.
In a way I'm kind of similar with keeping friends in real life, for me was shyness and depression which made it very difficult for me to speak in public, even with only 1 other being.
Even though I been getting better, still have at times trouble speaking with others, many times I will be quiet and will try to find words to say.

advice is the hardest part I'm still trying to find one myself that will work

It's hard to give advice because it's different for every individual. For me, I've gone from being someone you can put into a room of strangers and I'd know every name in five minutes, to a shadow of my former self because of the bullying and bad relationships I found myself in. It's part of the reason I got into Fursuiting. Ever since I put together my partial, I've used that to draw attention from others. Also, if you can, try and find some Furmeets in your state. The few people I've met and got along with since I started becoming more involved are great people, and things will expand over time.

If possible, try and find someone for who being needy and clingy doesn't matter as much, but also find ways to cope when they aren't around (No one can be around 24/7 after all). Video games are a great outlet, and online chatroom roleplaying is also a great thing to pick up, especially once you find the good RPers.

Although Furmeets sound cool. I kind of have a fear or get really anxious around people in mascot costumes. Even though the costumes look cute. I can't help but be afraid, because I can't see who is underneath. That is something I will need to get over, since I'm in this fandom or community. I could probably try some video games as well.

If you're in the furry fandom, you don't 'need' to get over fear of fursuits. Being a furry is just having an interest in anthropomorphic art (be it drawings, paintings, music, or costumes). Being a furry doesn't mean you have -or have to have- a fursuit.
There are many fursuiters who aren't furry as well.

There are a couple of furmeets without necessarily anyone fursuiting. Most just wear tails and/or ears, sometimes no one wears anything at all. It really depends what kind of furmeet it is, where it is being held, etc.

In other words: Don't feel you 'have to', but moreso that you 'want to'.

You don't need to worry about getting anxious either. Whether it's because of the costumes or just getting anxious from being around people.
Many people (furries and non-furries) are anxious or nervous to some degree when around other people. Only when being around people and trying things out can you 9or anyone else) learn a bit to feel somewhat more comfortable. Hopefully that will be enough to get you along, if not; just come up with some basic questions for furmeets. (E.g. "So you're a furry, what got you into the fandom?" "What's your fursona, can you describe it?")
Feel free to also say you're a bit nervous, it's helps when people understand :)
