Title: What is your earliest memory?
Post by: Jenac Azaela on April 11, 2018, 08:44:55 AM
I watched a video on the same topic and decided to put a thread here. The question is about what's the first thing you can remember, and how old you were at the time.

My earliest memories are from playing in grandma's garden. I'm not really sure how old I was at that time, probably around 2 or 3.

My earliest memory was from when I was younger than three years old. I only know this for certain because it was in the home that my parents used to live with me between the time I was born and the time my sister was born, or from birth to about three years old. I was standing at top of the stairs, where there was a railing to prevent people from falling off the landing that had ample space to stick arms through or look down at the wooden floor below. I had a toy train in my hand that was made out of metal, with magnets on each end that caused the cars to stick to each other, you could re-arrange them in any order that you liked. Basically I felt compelled to take the train and drop it over the edge of the railing for no particular reason other than boredom and curiosity, it hit the floor and made a terrific ruckus and scared the bajeesus out of me. Probably scuffed the mess out of the floor too. I can't remember how my parents reacted but I'm sure they were pissed. I'm certain the fact that this is my first memory is some kind of metaphor for how basically every life decision I've made thus far has gone something like "Yeah, sure. Why not? **censor** it."

For me, what I consider to be my first memory is walking around on my parents' bed, hearing the faint clinking of glass. On said bed is a pizza tray, with drinks glasses, muffins in 2-3 variants (vanilla, chocolate and maybe strawberry) and maybe a carton of milk. I believe we were having a sort of breakfast in bed, though I do not think this was Mother's day because I don't remember it being February in that memory. I know for a fact I was 3 years old at the time, because I've had three birthdays in kindergarten, and I vaguely remember all of them.

My dad let in and fed a neighbor's dog during a snowstorm. After the storm the owner was looking for him and my dad let the dog out, he immediately ran up to the owner. I think I was 5 or 6.

Something about having a dream (I guess?) where I was in a small convenience store, and there was an individual singing candy corn. Don't remember at what age. But certainly a little kid.

Riding a train by the Tasman Bridge and Hobart Botanical Gardens.  It was after trains had stopped passenger service and so it was special event apparently.
