Title: Just Wondering
Post by: WingedZephyr on March 01, 2008, 08:20:13 PM
The Furry Forums started as a primarily IMVU-related forum for the furries of IMVU. Since the forum's been around for a while now though, I've noticed more and more people around here who aren't from IMVU (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I was just curious to see how many people really are from IMVU or not around here.

On top of that, those of you who haven't heard of it (or have seen it around here and just not looked into it) might want to check it out. It's a 3D chat program, where you have an avatar that you can customize to fit your own look. Then you can meet new people and chat in different 3D environments/scenes. Granted, it has some issues, but that's a whole other story. (And I'll warn you, it also can be addicting sometimes.) You can find IMVU's site here (http://www.imvu.com) - must be 13+ to join.

(And if reading this post is the first you've heard of IMVU, don't vote in the poll that you've heard of it.)

Well, this is a mech kind of thing, but it's close: http://www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=1635763&quickfind=new

You can find more styles here (http://www.imvu.com/shop/web_search.php?keywords=mech&field=cat_106&pagestats=&page=1&cat=106&bucket=&tag=&sortorder=desc&quickfind=new&product_rating=0&offset=25&narrow=&sort=id).

Been a member for at least 2 years?

It's amusing :'D And yes.. addicting.
There's a lot of issues though ._.
15 year old perverts for one.

(You should probably add that you have to be 13+ to join)

I should do that, but I noticed that if you entered certain keywords for that avatar it would do certain things, you can do that?  :shcoked: :lovestruck2:
And I also noticed for the first one that the certain body parts required some kind of currency, could someone elaborate on that?

Yes. Many things in IMVU come with different triggerable actions. It's fun.  :)

IMVU uses a currency called "credits." It's possible to get them for free, but can be difficult to accumulate a lot of them that way. You can also buy them, at a cost around 1-2 dollars per 2000 credits. You get 500 free credits when you register, and you can get more by referring other people. There are a couple other ways to get free credits as well.

Most products (clothing, accessories, etc.) you buy from the IMVU catalog costs something in the range of 300-1000 credits (on average).

Well IMVU is a lot of things.. sure you can chat in 3D,
but theres the millions of ways you can customize your 3D self,
and the thousands of environments you can be in.
Then there's the developing which can earn you real money
if you're good enough or work hard enough at it. Some
top developers even live off the money they make from
selling items on IMVU. I know WaltzingMouse did, for one.

I tried it. And got banned from 3 furry rooms because I didn't have a complete set. Searched the catalog and there were no good reptile heads. So basically I'm out of luck. Its ok to be a furry as long as you live up to others standards. Its hard to go into a room of people you don't know and try to chat. But when they turn and tell you, you arent good enough and that you must leave that just aggrivates me.

EDIT: Ok I admit I was a bit more then upset over it. I wont try it again that is for sure.

Been a member for a little over a year now. I'm a dev but my skills don't go past stickers for the moment. I need to learn how to do more, if only to get more use out of photoshop than making avi pictures for various things

Maybe less.

Everyone is entitled to having no life. D:<

I know a hot chick who plays WoW >>

*Twitches*

Uhh.. IMVU..
To those thinking of joining.. I don't recommend clicking the 'chat now' button. >>

Besides, I heard a lot about furries in WoW (girls)... available races works as magnet =)

It's a hard not life. ._.

xD No..

I think 99.9% of people who use Chat Now are pervs.. and new.
That's why the chicks leave when they notice you're not a guy,
and the guys leave when they notice you're not a .. human? >>

Every once in a while I'll accidentally hit the "chat now" button... then proceed to scramble for the "log out" option before a chat can come up.  :P

Chat Now people scare me.

I met my first mate on chat now. Its only SOME people who are weird.
And you dont need to logg out, just get rid of the box by closing it

I meant in general. Not everyone in Chat Now is "scary," but a vast majority of them are. Enough that using Chat Now just isn't worth it for me personally. And I log out before a connection can be made to anyone. If I wait until it comes up and then close the window, that would be rude of me. If you like using Chat Now, go for it.
