What to do about copyright infringement?
« on: February 07, 2007, 11:27:13 PM »

This person's catalog is filled with violations.
The first one I noticed was all the art taken from Ghost of dawn. I used to be a member of her Yahoo group for her site about anime kitties. The next was a picture of Rei from breath of fire 3 that I remembered seeing on deviantart.
Luckily I have Ghost's email.
I'll be in contact with them. I just wonder how I can let IMVU know about this. Is flagging their submission as inappropriate
going to do any good? Do they have a field to say why I feel it's inappropriate? Anyone with experience on this?

Usually if you contact the person who's violating, nicely if they remove the images causing the infringement and they do, no worries. Other wise they leave them; contact IMVU .

I'm not quite as nice as that when it comes to art theft. Ghost let me know they were infact her kitties
so I did my duties and tagged them. :dragon: To become a dev you have to sign an agreement which this person
violated. Normaly I would ask the person first, but I've seen Ghost's art get stolen before. They're usualy lame noobs that
think they can claim all rights to her art.

thats really rude that people do this stuff they should really have legal action taken against them because they are breaking laws (depending on where you live i guess though)

Unfortunatley just about all artwork you see in stickers with a few exceptions is stolen  artwork.  It would be a full time job heck several full time jobs, to go thru every thing and point it out.. and even then I think the real owner of the item  has to email or contact IMVU before they'll take down stuff.

I know I've seen art by a number of other furry artists splashed all over the place. I've contacted a few of them like Xian Jag, Megan Giles and others I know personally.. but I haven't checked back lately to see if the items were taken down. The rest like all the golden wolf stuff..  there's just too much there to deal with and I don't have the desire to make enemies.. at least much of the stolen art work still has the artist's watermark on there so it ends up being 'free advertising' to a small extent.

imperfect solutions for imperfect world. =(

I just remembered the name of the deviantart picture that was stolen. It was Rei for danimation.
I could search DA for that user and find the exact deviation.

Just looked. That person wiped their page. Oh well, no trace backs for me then.
