Woman mauled by polar bears
« on: May 04, 2010, 10:21:02 PM »
Yeah, this is something that I just heard, a woman was going to the zoo, she had a nice life, a few kids. Then she jumps into the tank with polar bears. You might be thinking, "Why would she attempt suicide?", well, she didn't. She thought the bears looked nice and fluffy and wanted to pet them. Now don't get me wrong, I'd love to pet a polar bear, but one should know very simply that a bear is not something you should just jump in and pet. Her quote was (may have paraphrased) " I thought they looked nice. "

Note: It has a picture of her being bitten.

It's like those people who buy chimpanzees and keep them in their homes long after they've become fully grown dangerous male adults with a hunger for rich person faces.
"Parents always think kids are wasting their youth, and always have done [so] down through the millennia," says Tom Forsyth of RAD Game Tools. "'That Ug, always holding things. His front paws will develop in funny ways. Why can't he walk on all fours like normal proto-hominids?' And so, whatever the kids spend the most time doing, that's always what parents think is a waste of time, and what is corrupting their lives. It doesn't matter what that is. If all they did was homework, parents would be worrying that their kids aren't becoming well-rounded people. And, in fact, parents do this - enrolling math nerds in karate classes and the like. There is no way to win - parental paranoia ensures that kids are always doing the wrong thing."

I know we all like to laugh at people's misery because of the violent generation we are and make jokes out of horrible bodily injuries.

But no matter whose fault it is I mean come on she got mauled by a 600 pound bear.
Anyone can get mauled by a bear, maybe not the Polar kind, but a bear, it's possible

you won't be laughing so hard when a Grizzly doesn't like the look of you and decides to start a fight.

Yeah... Maybe it just because I don't find injuries funny that I don't get the joke... but wow.

That's some weapons grade stupidity.

And besides, she's been through enough misery already, I mean it's one thing to be mauled by a polar bear.... quite another thing to bear the emarassment of being dumb enough to pick the fight  :o

The violent generation we are? we ain't no different to any other generation.

Well if she was in the arctic and she hadnt gone up to a 600 pound bear to PET the thing, then I would agree with you, but it wasn't like that. If I find a tiger in a box, I don't jump in the box and play patty-cake with it. It takes a special kind of stupid to think that was a good idea, and I laugh at how stupid that woman was. To be fair though, I didn't really laugh. I just sighed at the idiot parade. She's a grown adult, she should have some basic knowledge of wild animals, especially a BEAR. What's she gonna do next? Go to an all Baboon tea party?

The only reason I would have any sympathy for her is if she had some mental illness that impaired her judgement.

quit laughing, what if she had a serious mental condition, or decided to end it all by antagonizing a 600 pound bear because life was just going completely downhill for her

We don't know for sure, we all just assume she was really stupid and wanted to play patty cake with a giant bear.

And what if she's perfectly happy and mentally stable? We don't know for sure. If we can't laugh at her then we can't laugh at anyone. No-one is free from the results of an absurd action. We have no idea who this person is but does that stop us from laughing at anyone else for doing something stupid? If I knew this woman, and she had no excuse for her actions, then I would laugh at her. I dont have all the information about her, so i will take my mirth where I can. Is that selfish or cruel? probably, but then i never care about strangers.

Leave them alone if you're not trained in that field. o.o

what if she had a serious mental condition
If she had a serious mental condition, she should have had people supervising her.

I didn't mean for it to become this kind of argument, a few things:
First: If you favor Darwinism then you might think thats funny in a cruel way...
Second: She's on list to be checked for a mental illness, they aren't sure but somehow if she isn't mentally ill then the zoo is suing her...
Third: I didn't mean for it to be laughed at that someone could think like that, I was just sharing some nuggets of knowledge mostly and bringing in some conversation, and sharing whats going on, the story just shocked me and I decided to share it...

There is such a thing as "dark humor". It's not everyone's cup of tea.

Is it sad she was injured? Yes. Was it the smartest thing to do? Obviously not. But whether or not someone finds that situation humorous depends on your personal opinions and your sense of humor.

Stop arguing about it.
