Mantis pets!
« on: September 19, 2013, 03:01:53 AM »
Lookie lookie! I have been following the site for a while and I will be soon ordering a mantis from them! They offer starter packages that include everything you need to care for a little friend at relatively cheap prices! My excitement levels are through the theoretical roof.

Congratulations on getting a pet! And I know this may be slightly random, but I'm a fan of the mantis too. Mainly due to the fact that they always did seem like the type of insect that would continuously try to buzz into your ear or mess with you. They also where the only insect, to me, that does actually seem a little bit cute when they're young.

This seems a but out of place in a thread about liking mantises and keeping them as pets.

No thanks. That's a nice offer though  ^_^

Praying Mantises are pretty awesome now that I think about it, I'm just afraid they'll pinch me or something mean.  x_x

Mantises actually rarely lash out at humans, and only do so when they are cornered. It also doesn't even really hurt. Mantises are pretty smart, and they know they could never take down a human. So why would they even try?

It looks like Mantises and Foxes would get along pretty well, considering how smart they both are.  :)

In that case, they're like the only creature in the world that doesn't attempt to fight back because they know they won't win. I really don't think that's it.

I do like their colors. And their funky eyes.

So what you are saying is, if a single lion saw a Tyrannosaurus Rex it would look at it and think "Oh, I think I can eat that"?

You said that they'd fight back if they're cornered, and then said they wouldn't even try to attack a human a second later. The point I'm trying to make is that everything will fight back if it feels threatened, regardless of whether they're cornered or not. I don't doubt these guys are tameable or anything.

Yeah, Quilly is right. Anything will fight back when cornered, not matter how slim the chance of survival is.

I don't have a pet mantis, but I find plenty in my garden! I like watching them stalk around, although they tend to blend in quite well.... Not easy to find. XD
