I was just wondering if anyone was at Midwest FurFest, and if you were, were you there when the gas leak happened?
I was there for the entire thing.
And I've been collecting new information about it since it started (one of my friends knows a guy who was working security, and he told him exactly what went on).
I guess I was wondering what other people's thoughts were on the entire event, and what your story was if you were there...
Here's what happened based on the knowledge I've collected and what I've experienced myself:
Sometime between 1pm and 2pm, the fire alarms began ringing out and flashing all throughout the Hyatt Hotel in Chicago, where the Midwest FurFest was taking place. Everyone was quickly evacuated, as reports of a gas leak on floors 9 and 10 were spreading.
Everyone was eventually ushered into the convention center across the street, and were instructed to wait in the back of the building until the situation was clear and it was safe to re-enter the building. The building was checked and cleared for re-entry sometime between 4am and 5am.
Reports say that 19 people went to the hospital after starting to show symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and possibly even coughing up blood (according to a few sources) after being more heavily exposed to the gas leak. It seems that all of them are being treated and are doing better now. No one died, and there have been no reports of serious injury.
Later reports by a security guard who was working that night revealed that people had found chlorine based bombs around the building, showing that this "gas leak" was actually intentional. The situation's being treated and investigated as a crime, though the criminal(s) have yet to be found.
