Any Motorcyclist Furs Here?
« on: April 25, 2016, 07:57:32 PM »
It doesn't matter whether you ride 30 year old UJM or the latest 200+ HP fire breathing monster, we're all a fraternity.

Is there anyone here that rides?

Not yet I need to take the test to get my license, but I really want a Yamaha street bike.

If you want to get a new bike, you should look at the R3.
It's probably the most well rounded of all of the current beginner sports bikes.

No. BUT, I love motorcycles, and would love to get one. One of my best friends rides, and he's been keeping in touch about suggestions and maintenance and such, in the event I get the opportunity and enough spare funds to afford what I'd like.

If you're testing the waters, I always recommend buying second hand.

You can't go wrong with something like a Ninja 250.

Oh, right on! Good to know too, since my buddy would be able to help me if I needed any advice on the fly. He ran either that or something similar early on himself, actually.

He's kind of against classic cycles like Harleys and Indians. I love them for their automotive beauty, but I'm not picky as long as it's reliable and safe for what it is.

I'd be a lot closer on my way if it weren't for the company I work for having lost a pretty big contract.  :S

But I'm definitely happy to keep my eyes and ears open.

I've been riding for 6 years and I still don't have a license >.> so I've never had a real bike of my own.

I have a few dirtbikes though. Gone through a couple yz250s and now I'm on a KTM 150sx and 250sx. Other than that, my brother won't let me touch his Ducati Monster lol

I also do not ride yet but I'm planning to take the course , but I have to wait for the school to finish so I can start riding. Thinking about buying the suzuki gw250 cause it's cheap and fairly reliable.

Funny you say that, in South Africa, there is absolutely no incentive to actually get a permanent license (I don't care about carrying a pillion). So I would just end up rewriting my learners every time that it would expire. The insurance company didn't care if I had a full license or not; they simply cared how old I was and how long I had been riding for.

The guys at Suzuki South didn't seem to care either. They would let me test ride whatever bike that I wanted.

This is my track bike:

lol I could try that I guess but the learner's permit (M1) here only lasts 90 days before you have to get the M2 which is taking classes and a road test (good for 5 years) and then your permanent M which is what is issued after a final road test.

So if I'm getting an M1 I might as well go all the way and get my M.

Nice bike! Is it 1200cc?

This is my track bike :P The track I ride is a bit different than the one you might ride but one day I will master both ;)

In South Africa, your learners is valid for two years, and the only restriction that you have is that you cannot carry a pillion.
Everytime it expires, I just go and write the test again.

It's a K6 GSX-R1000.

1200cc Superbikes are all twins.

Before I came to the US, once a month.

I haven't ridden since, because as stated earlier, I never bothered to get a license, because there is no incentive for a motorcyclist to get one in South Africa.
And all of my bikes are back in SA, obviously.
