Cat Characteristics?
« on: March 23, 2009, 04:51:40 PM »
Gargoyles generally are based off of a particular animal, whether that is a human or feral. While many are also chimaeras. Lately, I've been trying to establish which animal(s) my fursona should be based off of. Initially, I thought I just had generic animal behaviors. I bite, growl, am possessive of food, identify everything by smell, lick, chew affectionately on people, jumped on my trampoline on all fours when younger, chew playfully, so on, and always wanted a tail. As of recently, I've found that I also:

1. Rub against fabrics, such as on beds a lot when getting comfortable

2. I've always made this clicking sound with my tonsils in the back of my throat when either contented, sleepy, or trying to calm myself down.

3. I occasionally bat at moving objects, and find this highly amusing. :P

4. The tail I've always wanted specifically is a long, cat like tail.

5. I like to drink from actual fruits when thirsty, especially melons (but anything, really), rather than wanting water.

Most of these, if not all, sound quite cat like to me, although I am yet unsure about the drinking from fruit, although I know cheetahs do that. The only problem with this, is I just can't figure out which cat I should use. Nothing seems quite right. Any suggestions?

You'll notice I don't have any real specifics about my fursona. That is because I do not associate my fursona with any particular "design". Nova is me. I am Nova the gargoyle.

I'm not sure about some of these things, but make sure to not rule out lesser known cats. The jaguarundi has a lot of those characteristics, especially the long tail.

By long tail, I meant longer than a wolf tail, probably long for a cat tail, but that's not certain.

I have heard of the jaguarundi, though, but have not put much research into them. Which other traits does it have in particular?

To tell the truth, I don't know much about them, either. I do know that their tails are reeeeeaaally friggin long, like in here. Actually, that picture makes the tail look a lot shorter.

They live from lower Texas throughout South America, generally in rainforests and the fields near rainforests. I'm pretty sure they're solitary, but I could be mistaken on that. Aaaand that's essentially all I know off the top of my head- actually, I have no idea why your description made me think of them, but there must be something behind my logic XD

I think that Nova meant a sense of what the characteristics that were described were and how they match up with that animal.  :3

Not exactly. I meant intuitivity. For example, sensing what my fursona is, kind of like a psychic.

Maybe. Or maybe it's just how it seems to me.

Yeah, could be any and all. You could be noticing something subconsciously too.

Sounds like the jaguarundi. They're beautiful and the tail is a bit longer than a wolf's . I've seen one or two in person.

I do have an affinity for spots, however, I'm very loud, too loud according to most. I'm also odd socially, in that sometimes I'm very much a loner, other times I do want to socialize quite a bit, but never with large groups. Only a few people at most. I tend to need to withdraw from large groups a lot, actually.

I thought of a jaguar, for some reason. Even before you mentioned the affinity for spots.

(side note: I absolutely love your avi, WZ)

A jaguar would be more your thing, Nova. Based off your affinities thus far, anyway.

(Thanks, King. ^^ )

And yeah, the more I think about it, the more a jaguar seems to make sense for you, Nova. I remember whenever I went to this one particular zoo, the jaguar they had would sit there and roar all the time, and I could hear it from all over the park. So that would fit if you're not the quiet type. :P They're also solitary. Strong and sturdy too, if that fits you.
