Scientists prove what we all knew
« on: July 20, 2009, 10:46:15 PM »
According to research done at the University of Sussex, cats have the ability to modify their purrs in a way that makes them irresistible to humans, proving long held suspicions that cats are playing us for the fools that we are.

It's not all in your head. Cats actually do have the ability to exploit humans to their advantage using a special purr, a study done at the University of Sussex shows. According to the research, which culled data from cat owners reporting on their pets' purrs and their relative level of urgency or pleasantness, cats can use their vocal chords to hide a high-pitched cry within an otherwise regular purr.

That cry, according to previous research, is similar to the cry of a human baby - and there's a sound that nobody can ignore. According to the study, the more "urgent" purrs reported on by cat owners were more often than not laced with this cry, and that's not just a coincidence.

"We think that (they) learn to dramatically exaggerate it when it proves effective in generating a response from humans," Dr. Karen McComb said. "Obviously we don't know what's going on inside their minds. But they learn how to do this, and then they do it quite deliberately."

So our cats have been manipulating us for food, love and attention using a cry similar to one of the most insistent and undeniable sounds known to humankind. Those sneaky devils.

"Parents always think kids are wasting their youth, and always have done [so] down through the millennia," says Tom Forsyth of RAD Game Tools. "'That Ug, always holding things. His front paws will develop in funny ways. Why can't he walk on all fours like normal proto-hominids?' And so, whatever the kids spend the most time doing, that's always what parents think is a waste of time, and what is corrupting their lives. It doesn't matter what that is. If all they did was homework, parents would be worrying that their kids aren't becoming well-rounded people. And, in fact, parents do this - enrolling math nerds in karate classes and the like. There is no way to win - parental paranoia ensures that kids are always doing the wrong thing."

Cats rule the world. I'm convinced of this fact. While we're all suffering, we feed them and give them attention anyway.  The Cats benefit the most out of this relationship.

I think I'm immune to it...or its just that when cats purr, it starts to annoy me...

anyway, I mostly get my kicks out of both of my cats when they attempt to be agile, and fail...

So it wasn't just me just being paranoid! Cats are trying to enslave us, and their cute fluffy tummies are a back up.
*Sees a kitten lying on it's back*
Gah! it looks so fluffy and warm! but, I must resist... *burys his face in the fluffy tummy... seconds later, 20 claws latch into his head* Get ths thing off me!

I'm more of a dog person but no offense but cats are nice but I find them irritating, selfcentered and manipulative, maybe it's because they have a higher intelect than dogs, IDK but what I do know is I'll feed a dog before I think of feeding a cat :P
