Just A Random Question, Based Off A Qoute.

I was listening to a live version of a song and the question that was asked was, How many here believe that we are left here with the moral obligation to leave this world a better place than when we entered it? What's your guy's opinion on this. I am just curious.

If you really want to ask philosophy, then I'd be more than happy to oblige (look at my custom title).

I don't feel that we have the "moral obligation" to leave this world better than when we arrived on it, but instead that our bettering of this world is a by-product of our purpose in this world. (Please forgive me for bringing my personal faith into this, but I've tied everything in my views together with everything else for it is my opinion that everything should cross-reference and validate, so...) As a Deist, I feel that we are put here to fulfill a purpose, to do something, and through the completion of that goal we better the world, even though that is not the primary goal.

If that makes any sense.

Feel free to ask any questions you deem necessary. I can't be offended by a question put forward in good faith.

I believe that the sense of "moral obligation" to make the world a better place can be traced into instincts. Humanity has relied so heavily on co-operation, that being one of the only ways we are able to survive, that we have this idea to live for the world and not just for ourselves tied into our genetic code. It's similar to how dogs always see things as staying with packs and live for the better of the pack and not just for themselves.

However, this can also be tied down to a more selfish reason. We may be trying to make the world a better place because we are part of that world, perhaps our want to help other people can be again tied down to evolution. Where, when we were cave-men, we  had relied on each other to survive, so we protected other people in order to protect ourselves. But most of this is through more sub-conscious means, so we may be morally obligated to help people through these traits, but we may not notice it to such an extent that it actually is.
