Have ya thought about themes?  Themes can make a book very interesting and relatable ^.^

No Look I mean the lesson it teaches XD
Like in Most of the manga of shonen Jump it's all about how friendship blooms from rivalry/ friendship beats everything.
Or if there's a show about a guy that's dying the show ends up having themes like: Life is precious. Live life to it's fullest no matter how short it is.
Or in Undertale: You can't spell determination without termination  Determination beats all.
