Getting in the zone

For my current work I wait till late at night, turn on some jazz and grab my editor to bounce ideas off of. I find the light and music helps me visualize. I am a very visual person (hell, I have a photographic memory) so this helps a lot. What do you do to get in the zone?

I daydream about scenarios that Id like to be apart of. I play out the scenario how I like it, then write it down.

Don't find you have a special place or setting or mood or whatever that helps you write?

absolute quiet helps me write. no noise means my brain can work without distraction. I also write better when I'm depressed.

Oh, see. That's interesting. I get total writer's block when I get depressed, but then I'm a rather cheerful person normally so when I get depressed I get legitimately depressed. Like don't want to get out of bed for the rest of my life depressed lol. I know that's not funny. There are a lot of people who battle serious depression and my occasional bout with it doesn't give me nearly enough credibility to make a laugh at it, but whatever. Point is, depression gives me serious writer's block xD
