The Poetry of a Draconic Philosopher
« on: June 10, 2011, 05:13:32 PM »
Indeed, I write poetry. It's something to keep me entertained between my works of prose. So, I may as well introduce a collection of some of my poems. I'll mention when I wrote them, and what my reason was for writing them. I don't have too terribly much, and rarely do I write excessively long poems. However, you'll have to delve a bit further than what's just on the surface. Even the simplest words can have the deepest meaning.
Here is my first saved poem; written December 4th, 2009. The reason I wrote it was truly for a Creative Writing class assignment. I find myself disappointed with how it came out, looking at it now; but back then I was rather proud of it. The purpose of it was to say that I refuse to succumb to conformity; I dare to be unique, and all naysayers be damned.

As a Renegade...

As a Renegade I stand up,
I do not follow these imaginary rules of life.
I am not perfect,
and I don't ever want to be.
I take all that life throws at me,
and I throw it right back.
I don't want you to be me,
and I don't want to be you.
Don't think you can batter me,
'cause you'll be the one beaten down.
I don't care what you think,
about who I am or what I do.
I pertain to the shadows,
but remain in the light.
Chaos reigns,
but order is key.
My true potential is probably lying dormant,
but you'll know it when you see it.
I am a Renegade,
and I always will be.

---

I assure you my more recent works are much more articulate; any thoughts on this in particular, however? I'll post more as I get replies.

It's pretty good, I think It gets it meaning across quite effectively. I like how the poem doesn't have any specific, set structure to it helping the "Renegade", haphazard mood to it.

I admit I did not think of that while writing this, Fly! Thanks for the input!

Now I have here one of my much later works of poetry; written November 9th, 2010. This was of absolute spontaneous inspiration; came to me out of nowhere one day while I was listening to Wolfen (Das Tier in Mir) by E Nomine. So easily, you should know what mythological creature it's about.

Inner Killer

Midnight luminesence,
roiling, boiling blood.
Your mind, your conscience,
Become blind.
Gnashing teeth and swishing claws held high,
A primordial howl echoes through the night,
and you are posed to appeal your newfound sadistic fantasies...

Love goes dumb,
hate is to replace,
but instinct is strongest.
You feel no fear,
no remorse,
only the need to feed.

Your friends,
your family,
you no longer care.
Lift your head from the corpse,
and bring your bloody fangs to bear...

Miscreants and scholars,
all wish to entertain a hunt,
only to entertain the hunter,
to fall prey.
A macabre massacre.

Dawn.
You wake in a crimson pool,
hugging the dismembered.
Realization.
Jolted awake to this horror.

Struck dumb.
Morbidly unaware.
Overcome by fear.

Your gasp,
the thump of your heart,
feel it leap to your throat.

Your loved ones,
your friends,
You've bathed in their gore.
And being the lone survivor,
you now know why.

Draw the gleaming silver blade...

Their death,
is now yours...

Any guesses or critiques?

I'll leave it still in the air. Only way this'll get more views is if I keep postin'.

So, I have a piece I did almost directly after Inner Killer. Everyone says "baw against the devil," but yet, those same people do devilish things themselves. So in retrospect, I wrote this because I wanted to get my opinion out on the hypocrisy that is presented by all. So many religions think they're the only right one... That is an incorrect thesis. Every religion has a flaw, and only a collection of them all can answer the question we so desperately wonder about. But even then, it's inconclusive. So here to the excessive perfectionist hypocrites that I witnessed on that old ass youtube clip! (And the Westboro Baptist Church freaks. They are perhaps the greatest example of the evils I discuss.)

Deep Down Under and Over

Demon dancing on your left,
Angel singing on your right.
They switch.
One to betray you,
One to lead you.
But which one?

A guise can be donned,
A personality, changed.

Neither one hates you,
They only want you to follow them.
Disloyalty and maliciousness,
Love and respectfulness.
But which one?

Both sides have their evils,
Both sides have a point.

Or so it's said.

This, I will admit, was not one of my best pieces. A dual piece, really. I wrote this for a friend who was down on their luck, and was feeling insignificant.

Vent

Violent Past,
Never have done anything,
Never deserved it.
I hide myself,
Never wanting to shed a tear,
Not talking,
Just listening,
Buying into it all.

Soft heart,
Only wanted love,
Never got it.
I pity myself,
But don't ever want sympathy.
Don't think I need it.
Am I strong?
I doubt that.

Damaged mind,
Always demeaned,
Never praised.
I fear myself,
What do I do?
I don't even know.
I want someone to empathize,
Does that make me insane?

I feel indecisive at times,
And in rage or tears,
I lack verbal continuity.
I think that makes me crazy.
But nobody with a heart agrees.
But I don't know if I'm wrong.

They tell me to vent.

Reform

Bright future,
I will do all I desire,
and I will earn it.
I've found myself,
and I now let my emotions free,
being me,
acknowledging and replying,
challenging what's wrong.

Light heart,
I've found my love,
finally I have.
I'm happy with myself,
I seek sympathy when I need it,
which I now know I do at times.
I am strong,
no doubt.

Mended mind,
often praised,
rarely demeaned.
I accept myself,
I know what I did,
I understand.
I feel empathized,
it makes me at peace.

I've made my decision,
I picked up my words.
The lack thereof never made me crazy,
most agree.
I was wrong about myself.

They said I've reformed.

As you all know, I got together with Shuishe a few days ago. And as a first, I wrote her a poem within the first week of our relationship. My adoration for her is deep, my love for her deeper than that. Abyssal is an understatement, and she is even greater in my eyes with every passing day... When she's gone, her voice rings in my ears and forces a smile to my face even when faced by negative emotions. She also drew a couple's picture for us, which you can see here: http://goreal.deviantart.com/#/d48wk38

I absolutely had to submit this poem to go with her drawing, and this was the result:

Dragons of Eternity

Starlit sky above the clouds; prevalent moonlight - bountiful beauty.
The iridescence of two dragons - both emitting unique flames across the skies.
Their jaws fearsome, their claws vicious; but hearts of gold are aflutter in the breast of both.
The wheeling and tandem a sight to behold; a symphony of wings and tails enacting reminiscence of divinity.
Of holy colors of the west and wealthy colors of the east; the pair make a luxurious excursion across the open expanse.

Hidden in their eyes are words of excitement and enticing personalities.
Vibrant and warm, following lines of symmetry yet alternating.
Tails twined and paws in grasp - none can doubt the elation between them.
They never stray on a tangent from each other but circle and play as unsullied children.
The world around them; merely a jumping off point - a basis of existence and a tapestry of wisdom.

The sins and darkness - none are their worries.
Heroes they are, overwrought they are not.
"Protect and serve" is not their motto; "protect and thrive" is their heart engraving.
Save the souls, spare the damned; benevolence, ambit beyond infinity.
Jubilant in their coalescence - a rift in the sky they make, while not a rift in their love.

A cascading waterfall bears no comparison to the essence of their love; merely an augmentation in the background.
An ascent to heaven lower in desire than this manner of enjoyment - the angels recognize them as purity.
External beauty and internal beauty are aspects not alone, but together; lending simplicity no regard.
Nature claps, the sea cries and the sky sings; the dragons' bonds are of matrimonial proportions, planning to endure eternity.
Into an ear as they frolic casts one dragon's voice; into ears of his other he whispers...
"My other, you are a dragoness unparalleled; my heart is tied to your soul and my soul yearns for your heart in turn."
Her eyes turn bright as the stars above her, her unhesitating response is the tie that binds; following in her desires...
"My other... You are a dragon I admire; I tie my heart to your soul and make us one. Eternal now, we are."

As the sun rose before them; each became as glass.
Nothing to be seen in the skies when dawn had finally arrived.
