Avian Avengers (Feedback Needed, Original Story)
« on: April 06, 2015, 02:28:38 PM »
While here at the dorms away from home, I began writing a story for one of my OC's. As I kept writing, I began getting more and more into it that I'm currently on Chapter 3 of it!
While I'm excited I'm also really nervous cause I had no feedback on so there may be many plot holes, spelling errors and the sort so hopefully maybe posting the first one here might have people to help. So without further ado I introduce to the world of the 'Avian Avengers'!
Please Enjoy. ^_^

Avian Avengers
“N-No! Pl-please! I-I have money, ju-just please don’t…” the only words able to escape the unfortunate dove as he was violently struck down by a blast of electricity in the dark alleys of the tropics.

“I love it when they beg. ‘No! Please! I have money!’” the lizard laughed crazily as he looted the corpse of the bird.

Welcome to the Tropics. Despite the name, the area is anything but paradise. Constant crime, disasters, and accidents raged through the towns and villages of the Tropic area, ever since the discovery of the ‘Horus Crystals’. These crystals are an abundant of gems of different shapes, colors, and sizes found deep within the planet. Once obtained the crystals grant the user strange powers that varies from the type of gem found. The discovery of this crystals were found by the avian people of the Tropic areas of Gaia, the planet where life thrives. At first it was meant to be kept as a secret to the avian species, but over time the secret was discovered. People of all species far and wide rushed to mine and collect as much ore as they could carry. The thought of power began sending people into greed. The ones who couldn’t control the crystals caused dangerous accidents to sprout across the lands. And the once peaceful land of the Tropics was no longer so.

Chaos ran amok for many years. The few who rose to fight off the greedy individuals who seek the crystals were quickly outnumbered. After months of planning and dedication from a hawk named Hayate, did the organization; The Avian Avengers was born! Their goal: To take back the Tropics from the vagabonds who intruded upon their lands and to ensure that such a catastrophe would never happen again.

This is their origin.

Chapter 1: The Beginning
“All right guys. You know the drill.” Hayate yelled out as he flew at breakneck speeds towards the towns to the west; being closely followed by his crew of avians.

A crane with shoulder-length feathery hair, a garb resembling thoughs of royalty, and a yellow crystal that gave off a bright glow scanned the area ahead; his eye’s mimicking the glow of the crystal to indicate its usage, “Scanning now, Hayate. We’re still rather far off from the target area.” He sighed.

“Then shut up and keep moving, slow pokes.” The gruff voice of a sparrow blurted out. Donning an outfit that was made of different shades of black and taking on a more ‘military’ style of dressing; the Black-throated sparrow grumbled more, “Why the hell did we bring this useless guy anyw-“getting quickly cut off by the swallow behind him.

“Oh, shut up!” Wearing a tight formfitting suit, she gave a flap of her wings to move to get between the sparrow and the crane; glaring angrily at the rude military man, “Because one: Douglas is able to scan area’s further then even Hayate; who’s a hawk!” pausing to smile an apologetic smile to the said hawk, “…no offense.”

Hayate chuckling, “None taken.”

The female avian looking back, “Two: Not only can he scan area’s seen but can also scan the ‘life force’ of people unseen! And Three: Because he’s part of our team! So Lay Off, Conner!” yelling out.

The sparrow scoffed before falling silent; keeping a steady pace with the group. The crane would move to fly a bit close to swallow as he gave a shy smile.

“…th-thanks, Debbie. I…“he began to speak before Hayate spoke up.

“Alright, enough foolin’ around guys! Get back in formation!” Quickly the team adjusted their wings to fall into a triangle formation through the air as the continued on their way.

Looking back quickly, Hayate spoke out once more, “You too, Nina!” In the far back of the flying avian team, a colorful toucan, wearing a rather basic outfit apart from a rather large backpack, quickly began flapping her wings to keep up with the group.

“So-Sorry! I’m-uhh…” the toucan stuttered; making the hawk give a light hearted smile.

“Is this your first mission ranger, correct? I read your files back at the base. Your abilities are going to come in handy!” chuckling. The toucan blushed before opening her beak to speak.

“Area Located!” The crane blurted out; causing the toucan to jump and face forward at the scene below.

The village bellow seemed to be made up of more fire then houses. Smoke bellowed into the air; causing the sky above the rangers to darken. Every now and then; explosions would be heard as the toucan looked on in horror.

“Wha-what happened?” said Nina slowly.

“Cyrstal users.” The crane reported. “I count two… no, three of them. Scanning. Cold blooded. Lizards.”

The hawk expression grew stern as he look backed to his group. “No more, playing around. You know the drill. Douglas: Scan for hurt civvies. Deb: Control and eliminate that fire as best as you can. Conner and I will take out the threats. And Nina...”

The toucan perking her head a bit; heart racing. Everything was happening so fast. Was it chance that she took to using the crystals so easily. That the Avian Rangers saw potential in her… was it merely a mistake. I guess it was time to find out. “Ye-Yes, Hayate?”

The hawk looked to the crane before looking back to her, “Assist Douglas. That medical knowledge of yours will be needed greatly.”

The toucan let out a short sigh. After all the training the Rangers put her through; she nearly forgot before all of this she was a simple nurse. Helping the sick and injured ran in her family for generations. It was only when these crystals sprouted forth that her medical skills were put to the test. Day in and day out, injuries from people exposed to dangers of the crystals filled her job. Supplies became low. Many didn’t make it because of it. To now be on the lines and given the supplies she needed by the ARO (Avian Ranger Organization), maybe she can make up for the lives lost. But… deep down… was this truly her purpose? “…I... u-understood…” she nodded.

The hawk returned her nod before quickly glancing down, “All Right!” starting to quickly dive to the town below. In unison, the avians would yelled out; descending upon the town in peril, “Avian Rangers! Let The Wings Of Justice Fly True!”

Within the burning town; the sounds of screams and terror ran rampant in the chaos. Stores were trashed, houses were engulfed in fire, and the people who weren’t in sheer panic raced to tend to the injuried.

“Okay! Make this easy on yourself, ya useless sacks of feathers! Hand over the crystals and I’ll only beat half of ya to a bloody pulp! Deal!?” the head leader of the lizard crew laughing crazily.

Wearing a ripped up pair of shorts, and carrying a rather menacing looking bat; the crazed reptile casually walked through the burning town as his lackies proceeded to run wild. Shifting his head to the side; the lizard leader watched an innocent bystander try to flee past him; only to quickly turn catch him with his bat upon the side of his head.

“BLAM!” the lizard blurted out as the bystander fell; blood flying through the air from the impact.

Quickly jumping over the downed individual, the lizard kneeled, “Oh! That looked like it hurt! Well! I know just the remedy for that!” returning to a stand and reeling back the metal bat, “Say ‘Ahhh’!” turning to swing the weapon across the face of the poor canary before the lizard found himself violently tackled across the street before the weapon connected.

The lizard would grunt out before quickly making it back to his feet to glare at his tackler. In a flurry of feathers Hayate bounded back to his feet as he took a combative stance towards the head lizard.

“You’re under arrest by order of the ARO! Put your weapon down Now!” the hawk yelled out; stern and focused.

The lizard would ease his stance to fling his bat across his shoulders before grinning, “ARO. A… R… O… Oh! Wait, wait! Don’t Tell Me! The ‘Amazingly Retarded Offspring’!? Am I close? Can I get a hint?” the lizard laughed loudly to his own joke. “Quite frankly I could give a rats ass who the hell you are!” sticking out his tongue.

Hayate would grunt in surprise as he noticed the piercing within his tongue. “A Crystal!” he huffed.

The lizard would just give a devious laugh as the crystal gave off a blueish glow; the body around him quickly covering in harsh electrical currents. “Whoever you are…” pointing his bat to the avian. “YOUR DEAD!” a bolt of electricity firing towards the hawk.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Flying swiftly through the burning town, the sparrow scanned the area for hostiles. “Cowards!” he yelled out as he gave a flap of his wings to land; walking through the burning wreck of the town square.

Coming up towards the fountain; Conner glanced around before perking his head to an audible laugh. Quickly turning to face the sound; the sparrow would catch a glimpse of one of the henchman of the lizard darting into one of the burning buildings. “Get Over Here!” the military avian quickly taking flight to chase down the hostile.

Flying past a wall of fire; Conner quickly take in as much of his surroundings as he could through the smoke before slowly walking through the flames. A minute pasted as the smoke finally caught up with the ranger; coughing heavily before catching another glimpse rush down the hallway nearby. Growling, the annoyed sparrow quickly turned the corner to find the pathway blocked by debris. Taking a step back, he coughed, “H-how did he…” being cut off by a dark laugh.

“You sure are stupid.” Quickly glancing up to notice the lizard clinging to the upper wall of the second floor, “SURPISE!” leaping off to dive bomb the sparrow.

Douglas and Nina made their way through the town of flames. “Hey, Nina!” the crane called out to toucan.

The poor colorful avian looked on in horror from the senseless destruction of the village. “I… I remember this place. It was so beautiful back then. I… I can’t believe it’s…” saying softly.

“NINA! FOCUS!” the crane yelled out; the toucan quickly snapping out of it. “We have a job to do. Let’s get on with it.” The crane huffed before landing upon one of the busier roads; still bustling from the chaos.

The toucan looked out to notice the dozen injured among the masses before dipping her head, “Ri-Right.” Closing her eye’s briefly.

The crane’s eyes began to light up before pointing. “There! Lacerations to the leg! Losing blood fast! We gotta move!” both rushing to aid the poor man.

“I… have to stay focused. Too many people are counting on me.”

The battle between the head lizard and Hayate quickly come to a head; the hawk flying off in a serpentine pattern in an attempt to dodge the arcs of electricity shooting out from the lizards bat. Swiftly the reptile gave chase; the electricity arcing around his feet to enhance his speed, “Oh Come On! You Come All This Way to Say Hello and You’re Not Even Going to Ask My Name!?” he laughed.

The hawk peered back before returning his gaze forward to notice a forsaken two-story building on its last legs of standing due to the fire. Rushing to get ahead; the hawk quickly reached towards his belt to remove a dagger-like item. Giving it a quick spin; the item quickly extend into a spear as the hawk slashed through the outer wall of the building; causing the structure to creak and suddenly buckle; sending debris and stones raining down to the street below. The lizard lost his deranged smile as his chasing lead him right into the path of the falling building. “ACK!” stumbling and covering his face from the kick up of debris before looking up to catch the larger part of the build towering over him. “Aww, Sh-“would be the only thing to escape the reptile as the building came crashing down upon him.

Hayate would loop around to land and asset the situation before sighing, “There’s no limit to greed, is there?”

“ARGHH!” the sparrow grunted out as he was tail whipped through a weakened wall of the burning building.

The lizard henchman casually stroll through the new made hole, “Is that all you can muster, bird?” the female lizard taunted before drawing a crude butcher blade from behind her, “Oh well, a tasty snack none the less.” licking her lips.

Slowly the sparrow came to; vision blurry from the heat and smoke from the building. Wasting no more time, the lizard girl lunged to skewer her prey all the way through. Quickly, Conner shook off his dazed state to quickly roll off towards the right to dodge and scramble back to his feet. “Bastard!” the reptile scoffed as she continued her assault.

Blades flew through the structure as the fighting intensified along with the heat. Upon one skillful dodge the sparrow took note of the creaking and shifting of the burning arena they fought within.

“This whole place is going to come crashing down soon.” Glaring to his opponent, “Sorry, but I need to wrap this up so…” the female growling back towards him, “Don’t Be So Sure Of Yourself, Idiot!” rushing him down.

With little effort the sparrow took a combative stance before closing his eyes,

“Activate…” he murmured before a purple glow emitted from his belt buckle. Closing the gap; the lizard girl quickly slash diagonally at the bird.

“DIE!” she’d yell out; only to realize that within a blink of an eye the sparrow would have seemed to disappear. Stumbling from the miss attack; she quickly looked around the wreckage of the former building before screaming out in rage, “BASTARD! WHERE DID YOU GO!”

Only the sounds of the creaking building and jumping flames would be heard for a moment. “So zeta slow.” A voice rung out to send shivers up the females spine as she turned around to slash again in anger; breaking off more of the building. In an instant; the sparrow reappeared in a speedy blur behind her; her eye’s going wide. “Too fast for you?” he’d huffed.

The girl quickly attempted to counter attack before Conner delivered a ‘speedy’ chop to the back of her neck; causing her to slowly black out from the impact. “H-how… did…” she’d mutter as she fell before Conner moved to catch her.

“Dumb lizard. You’d think we’d lose to such amateurs?” blinking as his victory was cut short by the buckling of the second floor above giving way a room over. “Shit!” taking a better grasp to the lizard before darting to make a hasty exit from the toppling structure.

“Gauze. Painkillers. Splints. Check, check, check… Let’s see.” The toucan counting out her supplies as she went upon her duty to heal the injured.

Within minutes, Douglas and Nina took to locating and rescuing the inhabitants of the forsaken village. Scanning the area once again, the crane lightly smiled, “Good. We’re doing great. At this rate we’ll have things under control in no time.” The glow within his eyes leaving, “The Rangers informed me of your medical knowledge but I never knew you were so skilled.” The crane chuckled.

The toucan blinked; pausing her check of supplies to return the chuckle. “Ye-yeah, well I grew up with my mother being a nurse so stuff like this is natural, ya know?”

The crane smiled before scanning the area once more, “Even so; it’s great to have you aboard.” Smile fading a bit, “You’d be surprise how rare it is to find medics willing to head into the front lines while this struggle for power is tormenting our lands. Many lives have been lost up to this point. To have… ‘Just one medic in our field’ is just… Huh?” the crane trailing off to point, “Hey, Nina. We have another one. Seems minor. Just a twisted wing.” Dropping the scan before smiling, “You can handle that one by yourself, right?”

The toucan looked off towards the direction before giving a confident nod; take no time to fly towards the target. Landing suddenly; Nina glanced over to the downed nightingale who was sitting by another building, groaning in pain. Nina swung the bag around before kneeling towards the downed bird, “It’s going to be okay. I’m with the ARO. Call me Nina. I’m going to take a look at your wing, okay?” smiling lightly.

As Nina continued to assist the needy; the third lizard of the reptile crew slithered into view across from where the toucan stood before aiming a hand towards her. “Death to all those who oppose Kyokyu!” a sandy glow forming rapidly into the palm of the reptile.

Aiming above her; the henchman would clench his fist as the building above the toucan shifted and cracked. The nightingale perked its head before looking to see parts of the building breaking away. “Th-The Building!” the bystander yelled out before the toucan took note; looking up.

“Wha-What the Hell!?” the toucan instinctively jumping back before realizing the peril of the injured bird. “Mo-Move!” she would yell out. The nightingale struggled as best he could; only to fail due to the injured wing. Nina’s heart raced. The structure would fall any moment. Thinking quickly; the toucan came to a realization. Saving lives was in her blood. From generation to generation; her family was the reason for dozen of families throughout time to thrive and survive. To throw that away now, would disgrace her entire family line. Dashing back into the line of danger; Nina would quickly kneel to pick the nightingale up to his feet before gazing back towards the building. With the force of the energy emitted from the crystal the rubble broke free and was plummeting rapidly to the pair. There was no time to act. Thinking quickly, Nina quickly toss the individual aside with all of her might before the rubble quickly overtook the poor toucan. Dashing in at the last moment, Douglas looked on in horror, “Ni-NINAAAA!”
