The setting is thus: There is a small country town in a temperate climate (to make things simple.) It has a lot of farms and quaint homes, with few roads and small local stores.
The main feature is the local hotel, known as the Drowsy Country Inn, which is having a convention for Elphong (the scientific name is Anuboscate, which I realize means nothing in Latin) Enthusiasts. Elphongs are kept as pets by many, hence the convention, but anyone who joins the RP doesn't have to have one. Most elphongs are of average intelligence. They are a tree-dwelling species that are essentially a cross between elephants, tree-frogs, and monkeys.
They have big, broad heads, extremely short, thick necks, and large, wide, mostly forward facing eyes (with typically small/thin pupils during the day; they are most active during twilight hours by nature, but adapt to their owner's sleep-schedule too.) They have thick, chubby, medium-length trunks that bulge a little when croaking. They also chirp, sing, hiccup, and sometimes give off a bugling kind of cry. They have long, lanky legs with huge hands and feet. Their elbows and knees stick out sideways naturally, when relaxed. They have very long fingers and toes with wide tips that are excellent at grasping. They have long tails that are fairly flexible (but it can't hold things in the manner of a third hand.) They are covered in mostly bare skin with a soft but sparse downy fuzz that is wiry and longer at the joints, tail-tip, triangular flap-like ear-tips, and sometimes on the very top of their heads.
They spend most of their time leaping, crouching, and clinging, which they do with natural, typically rapid motion. They are generally curious and sometimes fearless, depending on their personality. Some are more vocal than others and they are social by nature. Their main overall body colorations are usually some variation of grays, greens, and browns with red, silver, gold, or green eyes. They eat insects and vegetation (sometimes catching insects with the trunk.) Due to the shape of their jaw, to match their trunk, it seems as if they have a perpetually blank but goofy smile. They do not have tusks. If you're curious, there are normal animals and other made-up animals in the RP as well (feel free to introduce your own creations but give some background on them as I've done here.)
The Drowsy Country Inn is the main point of scenery, being of older and grander architecture. It's also the biggest building, other than the bank. There is also a small, high-school age boarding school at a beach, several miles away, with kids from all over the place. It's half an hour by train from there to town. And the nearest big city is a day or two ride by train (the station is on the outskirts of town.) The technology varies considerably but most of the stuff in town is mid-range. There is a weekly flea market and a daily farmer's market near the post office. This is a fantasy and sci-fi friendly setting but all magic works by animism (invoking the spirits of nature to do as requested, with no guarantees and something always being offered to and taken by the spirit that answers the call.) You're welcome to get very creative on the details though.
Well, now that I've got all of that out of the way, feel free to post a profile or describe your character as you go. Please use past-tense style prose in your IC poses. I'll let other people post first to see where everyone wants to start. The convention can be an entirely background device if no one is interested in it. I just thought I'd throw that out there as an option for what could be done.
My character, Spiraea (I changed the name again, sorry, couldn't make up my mind), is a white furred dog with long floppy ears, short scruffy tail, short white hair, and very faint grayish-beige markings (more strongly around her eyes, to make a white blaze between, but elsewhere mostly mixed into her fur in a salt-and-pepper style manner.) She's a mutt with plausibly some spaniel, springer, and schnauzer heritage. She has an elphong named Noonan and lives in town.
There will be pictures at some point... My scanner hates me right now.
