Ammendments, and Applications Thereof (VeeSmith, Myself)
« on: December 03, 2007, 03:58:39 AM »
T he days had passed, without the promise, or the sanctuary of any budding nights.  The ill light of a million souls being held to some surreal machination ensured that they would not sleep on time, or at all on some days.  He, himself, was use to this effect, but his recent companion was, in her own right, her own person.  She rested, upon whatever fabrication he could find around that bare land, but he had, indeed, tried to take care of her in those past days.  Even a few bandages were applied to those wounds that he inflicted, but there was still the distance of apathy between the two.

That morning, or night, depending on what practical hour it was, if there was an hour at all, he would go about scavenging from what bodies remained on his proverbial doorstep.  The soulless bodies were routinely handled by the many erected hands that infested the place, as he did not care to handle the dead, as simple as they were.  He played with a single paw, in the air, to orchestrate this assembly line of disposal, until there were not by a pile of bodies at the foot of the ziggurat.  They were out of her sight, for now, as she rested, and out of her natural area of scent.  With a an emblazoned paw, he set about torching the pile.  Simply he looked away, having too much dignity to grimace over the scent of the burning corpses.

The spat of fire that descended over the pile was heated to the point that even the bones of the many were being disintegrated into a fine ashy mist.  As usual, the alien winds of the place would come and consume the bodies, and any remains there across the landscape.  He watched as the remains floated away, one body at a time, until there was nothing in the cold winds, or on that discolored ground.  Maybe he would be in a happier state now, maybe everything was going to be fine, and the brooding hulk that he once was would disappear as he set the byproducts of his failings away.  He turned away from the site, charred and barren as it were.

As he left the site, he looked toward the housing atop of those many stairs until he could spot her bedded form, awake or not.  How could he ever manage to take care of this creature, when he was rarely ever capable of producing that feeling.  There was a changing of the times, now, but neither for the best or the worst, and he could only greet it with a grim face.

Days had passed and not much had happened. This was not too much of a surprise to her but still. Her creator had, or at least tried to, take care of her during the days that had passed, applying a few bandages to her wounds, but she knew there was still a distance between them. She even thought that there always would be that distance and it saddened her some, but she tried not to dwell on it.

She was half asleep when she heard what sounded like something burning, but she continued to lay there on her makeshift bed with her eyes shut. She figured he was burning the bodies that had been lying around. Oh, how they had bothered her. The sight and the smell of them had disgusted her, and to think, she could've been one of them made it even harder for her to look upon them. She was glad that her creation was successful, although, in the Creator's opinion, not as successful as he would've hoped.

Now she pondered what his name was, if he still had one. In those past days all she could refer to him as was her creator and not much else. Of course, they weren't close in that kind of personal way so it wasn't a surprise that he had never mentioned what his name was. They weren't friends anyway, although she wished she could be accepted as one at some time, she knew it was more probable to not happen.

As she laid there thinking she suddenly felt as though she was being watched. She opened her eyes slowly and stretched her body out to its full extent, then looked at him as she sat up. She just looked at him blankly since she had nothing to say. He didn't look pleased to her, so she figured that he was thinking since he usually looked that way when he was. She wondered if he had ever really smiled before, and not a menacing smile but an actual happy smile. Looking at him now, it didn't seem like he was capable of such an expression.

F or a moment, he would peer down at the lain female with a simple stare.  His arms crossed as he quietly scrutinized her, in his own manner.  Before too long, however, he would step away from his haughty position and tended to the meager temple grounds he kept.  There was not much of a reason now, to let things go unkempt with company to keep right now.  The altar, part of that mess, had fallen into disuse over the past few days.

Once a vocal point for his magics, he had abandoned it as he achieved the ability to conscript company, regardless of their willingness.  He stayed perfectly too himself as the girl watched him perform his work, but all she would get back was a silence that, in itself, was it's own solid construct that he had spent decades perfecting.  That paw swept with a blaze, a blaze that would cleanse and shed the stone platform of the filth that had accumulated on it over the years.  As it lay charred, and bare, he would extend a claw and began to dig at the surface.  Eventually several archaic symbols were formed in front of the female.  They were familiar to him, and in fact, obviously memorized as it took him naught but his mind to craft.

He'd lean, into that pile of books scattered about, and he'd begin to organize them after the figures took shape.  Eventually he would take one out of the neatly, albeit, still messy pile and adjusted it in front of her.  It was turned in her direction, and still going off his aged memory, he would open the book that would expand the meaning of those many symbols.  A certain page was directed too, and it simplified the long-standing language that sat before them both, on the alter, to simple common words.  To it, he would look up to her with that apathetic mask still strapped firmly to his person.

"This is, simply, a tome of spiritual augmentations.  It will strengthen you, and it will protect you against the Reaper of the Reapers."  The page was turned, symbolically, of the knowledge that he wanted to instill into the girl.  "You will read from this, every single day, before night, or after you wake up.  If I ever find out that you have been neglecting your studies, there will be hell to pay" he said, with that stoic tone.  Still, he attempted a joke, but it was wasted as his threat was real, and true.  "You will study these symbols on the alter, for now, and when you finish, I will fetch you some food.  Eventually these symbols will be bound to you, and you will have more freedoms than the ziggurat."  It was with that, that he slid the book toward the female.  He sat back, and still quietly scrutinizing her, he would watch her next move.  Unfortunately, though, the freedom of choice was an illusion at this point.

He looked down at her for a minute with his arms crossed but soon he stepped away. She watched him as he tended to the temple grounds. She saw him extend a claw and dig at the surface, writing some archaic symbols. Of course, she didn't recognize the symbols but obviously he knew what they meant.

She watched him organize the books that were scattered and glanced over at where he had dug into the altar to see the figures take shape. Looking back in his direction, she saw him turn one of the books towards her. She looked down at the book for a second then back up at him. Had he ever been happy? Ever smiled? Ever felt any positive emotion? She shook her head slightly and listened to what he said.

She looked back down at book when he turned the page and examined it, nodding as he told her what she was supposed to do. She noticed he attempted a joke but didn't laugh or even chuckle because she knew the threat was all too true. When he slid the book towards her, she picked it up and set it on her lap. She looked back and forth between the symbols on the alter and the book, attempting to decipher them. One time she glanced up at him for a second as he watched her but then looked back down at the book. She opened her mouth like she was about to speak then closed it again and looked back at the alter.

A few seconds later, she glanced at him again before looking back down at the book. She opened her mouth again and this time she spoke. "Would it be..." She paused for a second. "Would it be out of line if I asked you what your name was?" She continued to look down at the book and study it, not daring to meet his eye and fearing that she might get punished for asking him. She awaited his answer, whether it be words or action.

The demon would sit by, as his newly christened student attended to her studies.  In this time, he would fall back upon his own mind.  He'd waste his sensibilities on an obscure, imagined mindset as she began her studies, but this was all part of his way to cope with the years of silence.  Knowing not how to converse, or even act in this situation, he was quiet for the length of the studies, with emblazoned eyes peering up at that ever-existing maelstrom.  It was with her query that he would be brought back to a more aware consciousness.  There was wrath depicted on his face, but it was not enough for him to produce any physical threat to her.

He looked to her, with those eyes demeaning and angry as always, but he would soon cross his arms and looked away from the mutt of a girl.  "I lost my name when I was born to this place, as was my standing.  I will not tell you what it was, for you'll call me it anyway.  You will have to realize that is a mystery, always will be, and you will have to endure it on your own" he said, with a tinge of anger upon the tip of his tongue.  It was after this statement, that he would soon get up and leave the vicinity of the girl and the stone altar.  As usual, he fell back into silence and looked out into the vast wilderness.

There was another day out there, waiting, but he did not know what to do with it.  Everything he could do there, was already done.  He hunted before, but the beasts here were listless and weak.  He built before, but you could only build so much before you realize that you don't need any of it.  That tail swayed as he thought, eager, as always, to endure some trial that would never meet him.  Perhaps the girl would present some unknown trial, and perhaps her in her own unique life, she would be able to provide to him some sort of renewed excitement, but there was not much he could teach her that she'd find practical here.  Turning to her, in mid-thought, he would watch her study again.

Part of him had developed some sort of curiosity for the girl, for the lack of anything better to be concerned about.  How had she died, and how had she came to be, still semi-conscious of her abilities?  Obviously she did not know, so he did not ask.  He did have ways of finding out, however, and he would do so when the time was right.   Now, however, he would have to wait until she could walk upon her own two feet.

His reaction was basically what she had thought it would be. He wasn't happy with her question and she didn't have to look at him to know that. Luckily for her though, he didn't physically threaten her, and she was grateful for that. Well, now she knew that she wouldn't be able to refer to him by a set name. She could deal with that though.

She looked up again when he got up and left her. She looked back at the alter, narrowing her eyes at the symbols on it, she traced the shape of the first symbol with a claw. Then she looked back at the book, her eyes scanning the page she was on.

She stayed focused on what she was studying as much as she could. Her mind was racing with thoughts though. She wanted to know about her past and what had happened to her. She was sure that he wanted to know how she came back still partially concious of her previous abilities. She was also sure that he knew that she didn't know how she did and so he wouldn't ask her about it. He would probably use different ways to find out though. She sighed at her thoughts and continued her studies.
