Hip-hop/alt. electronica appreciation.
« on: September 15, 2011, 08:17:47 PM »
Something I've noticed about vocal non-fans of rap/hip-hop is that most of the time, the only exposure they get to it is from the radio.  I decided to make a thread about lesser-discussed hip-hop and electronica for anyone who enjoys it, or anyone feeling a bit experimental in their tastes.

Also, I know how pro-metal a lot of folks here are, I don't want anyone showing up just to badmouth anything.  I enjoy a lot of metal, but it's not the only thing I listen to.

Tobacco- Heavy Makeup

1. Busdriver - Split Seconds (Between Nannies and Swamis)

Dj shadow-organ donor (extended overhaul)

If this garners any interest, I'll keep sharing.  Or feel free to post things reflecting your own tastes.

I love hip hop and electronica. As soon as I get where I can I'll gladly listen to these.

Oh, wow.  I stepped away to play Rock Band for a few minutes, and I've got responses.

Aesop Rock - No Jumpercables (Goron Village)

Dr. Octagon - Blue Flowers

Nujabes - Counting Stars

You guys surprised me with your promptness.

Of course.  I had an album by The Queenstons for at least half a year before knowing they were on a furry label.

I enjoyed it, very R&B feel to it.  The beat was simplistic but fitting.

mr lif! love mr lif... used to listen to him loads;

DJ Vadim - Edie Brikell (feat Slug)

british dj i really got into recently. his beats are examples of pretty impressive sampling. this track isn't really a showcase of that, but still the rapper is pretty good.

BT (ft. M. Doughty) - Never Gonna Come Back Down [Official Music Video]

This is BT, and he's from mah hometown so I figured I would share this song. It was the song that I was introduced to him with, oh hmm...6 years ago? I think... He's got a lot of GREAT work out, Rose of Jericho is the second song/video, which is one of his most recent releases.

http://youtu.be/2sLRMAkc2aM

I particularly enjoy house and trance without words because I can really feel the beat, and the emotion of the music and just let it move my mind, soul, or body. I know I just sounded like a techno-hippy there, but seriously, I LOVE house and trance music. It's what I listen to the most, but not the only thing I listen to.

I'll just leave this here

Deadmau5 vs DJ Ellipsis - Ghosts Over Baghdad

I know we're not arguing mainstream vs. underground here, but I'm pretty sure deadmau5 and Skrillex are the most accepted "alternative" electronica artists these days.

Not saying I can't occasionally enjoy either of them, I'm just surprised nobody posted them sooner.

i've been rediscovering electronic music recently, both in a listing sense and a composing sense. i used to do lots of algorithmic compositions for synthesis but i stopped a while ago because i felt that the sounds that were possible wern't particularly interesting to me anymore. but, i've started listening to a few very very very interesting composers and performers... and as a result i've started coding again.

Alva Noto Prototype6

this isn't mine... this is alva.noto, one of my faves. his new album features an avant-garde pianist and i was rather hoping to find a clip of that on youtube... sadly i don't think youtube has caught up yet.
The further on I go, all the less i know.
