Any classic rock lovers?
« on: December 08, 2015, 12:28:03 PM »
It's a little hard to find people my age (high-school age) that actually have a passion for classic rock... wondering if any of you guys are fond of the likes of Pink Floyd, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, or The Who? ^_^

I like some classic rock but I am very selective. I love me some Pink Floyd but it is a small smattering of other folks, and generally not the kind of songs you tend to hear on the radio. That's not because I am a hipster and am bound to only like things that are unpopular. It's more because classic rock is so ubiquitous that you end up hearing it all the time, and it has honestly grown so tiresome that hearing "China Grove" one more time might actually make me explode.

So yes and no for me, more or less.

How about "classic" Metal? Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Motörhead, Judas Priest, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden.

I'm also starting to get really big into Prince & The Revolution.

The 80's were a beautiful era in music. ;-;

Yes, definitely! My first love was Black Sabbath and Metallica, then I learned more about Dave Mustaine from the first Metallica album, heard his unique voice with Megadeth and I got into Megadeth (Marty Friedman, also. He's great  ;) ). The other bands you mentioned are all very highly respected by me as being very talented and just plain amazing to listen to  :D do you like Pantera? I've found they are pretty talented as well (dimebag is awesome!!)

RE!

SPECT!

WALK!

Are you talkin to me?!

Yes!!! I love Pantera!! My favorite song is off Far Beyond Driven, it's Slaughtered. Dime was actually one of my inspirations for picking up a guitar in the first place! It was Dime, James Hetfield, and after I started listening to Slayer when I was playing guitar, Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. However I prefer bass. Bass influences were Fieldy, Tom Araya, and Lemmy.

I have so many songs I love by them (Cowboys from Hell and Walk are classics!) Dimebag was an amazing guitarist, definitely one of my favorite guitarists. Have you ever heard the work of bassist Les Claypool? Recently, I saw Primus (his band) and they are just... wow, so talented. He is a master of the slapping technique, and one of my favorite bassists of all time  ^_^  Once upon a time, sometime in the later 80's I believe, Claypool auditioned for Metallica as he was buddies with Kirk. Interesting story there. Unfortunately, I haven't found many in high school who like metal or rock in general. There are a few, though, and they are wonderful  :D

Les Claypool is literally one of the most talented bassists who use the slapping technique I have ever seen, in my opinion. I love him and his separate ventures, as well as Primus! Anything from Sailing the Seas of Cheese I love, and I'm absolutely mesmerized by his basswork in Tommy the Cat  :*

I'd say he's one of the top 3 most talented bassists. I remember watching him play My Name Is Mud on the music video and going, "I want to do that!" Him and KoRn's bassist Fieldy really inspired me to play bass and learn slap techniques.

Yes, classic rock is quite good. AC/DC has to be one  you favorite bands of all time. They were actually the first band I bought an album from. Good music. I have 8 of their albums and the '74 Jailbreak EP. 50s rock'n'roll is also great. Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc. All good. Also Jimi Hendrix, CCR, Canned Heat (I think that's rock), and other 70s bands. Rock is a wonderful genre.

Yes!

And I'm quite surprised nobody's mentioned Deep Purple. Their work is amazing. Especially their stuff from Machine Head and from Fireball. One of the most talented lineups all around.

Definitely a classic rock lovin' vixen here!

Particularly The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Jerry Lee Lewis and Queen. Coz I'm just gonna include 50s rock and prog rock in there.  Might mention that Bob Dylan is a bit of a fave and I'm quite partial to Eric Clapton also.  If you like the Beatles and don't know the Rutles then prepare for an early Christmas present!

On the Les Claypool theme, have you heard Sausage?
