Here's what it is, Lissa; in the headcanon it comes from, it's a parasite and a pest. Races seek to eliminate it because it just devours everything. It's classified as a type of 'worm' and can distort and contort its body in... rather grotesque ways. Pretty cool species, if I say so, myself. :U
