Mafia 2 PC help
« on: August 30, 2010, 08:48:37 PM »
Has anyone Had any trouble installing Mafia 2 for PC?  It seams that Steam is causing the issue for me. I tried installing the game without installing Steam, but the game won't install without it. I have searched the Steam site, but found no solutions... Has anyone experienced this issue?

I didn't have such a problem... but what sort of thing causes the issue? What is the error you are given?
"Parents always think kids are wasting their youth, and always have done [so] down through the millennia," says Tom Forsyth of RAD Game Tools. "'That Ug, always holding things. His front paws will develop in funny ways. Why can't he walk on all fours like normal proto-hominids?' And so, whatever the kids spend the most time doing, that's always what parents think is a waste of time, and what is corrupting their lives. It doesn't matter what that is. If all they did was homework, parents would be worrying that their kids aren't becoming well-rounded people. And, in fact, parents do this - enrolling math nerds in karate classes and the like. There is no way to win - parental paranoia ensures that kids are always doing the wrong thing."

It doesn't give any error messages when installing Steam. If I try to install the game like normal, Steam wants to install first. Ok, I let do what it wants to do... Steam installs and then nothing else happens. Someone on the Mafia site posted with this same problem and was told to contact the Steam people about it. SO I also took that advice, and found no help there. You are given the option of installing steam now or later.  I chose to install later, and then I get the error message telling that an error has occurred and installation was being canceled. After about a dozen install attempts with and without Steam, the actual game doesn't install. I'm glad that I bought this for the 360 first...

Well, I can only tell you most basic ideas with this that you've probably already tried.

Well have you tried installing mafia again after steam is installed?

and have you checked steam's game list. If its there you could install it that way...

and also, have you sent an email to valve?

Perhaps you could figure out what the folder names are and where they go in the Steam folder and basically put the game on your hard drive and see if you could install it via steam rather than through the disc?

Oddly enough, This is the solution that the people at Steam suggested... :o  Why buy a retail box game and then have to download it from a website to play it?  Another reason why I try to boycott anything connected to Steam... >:(

Personally I find Steam to be amazingly efficient, I mean the prices aren't as hard hearted as some electronic services online and the prices change all the time, I mean and not only that, you don't have to pile up disc after disc in your avaialable living space and these games can never be lost as you have an account where you can download your licensed copies unlimited amounts of times no matter what happens. I think the only thing that could possibly go wrong is if your account got stolen, I like it because not only will the games run faster, they are optimized with all the required software built-in the installation of the game to make sure it will function as long as you have the correct computer specifications to handle the games.
