Civ IV Anyone?
« on: November 10, 2011, 01:45:15 AM »

Just wondering if anyone else has played (or plays) Civilization IV. It is really fun (and addicting)! I am not particularly great at Real Time Strategy games, but it really makes me want to learn how to play them well! I highly recommend it for anyone as it has pretty wide appeal. After all who doesn't want to take over the world through diplomatic, military, or cultural might as some sort of historical leader?

If anyone else does play I'd be happy play with (or against) 'em!  ^_^

I can't even count how many times I've played through this game.

With a different leader, map, allies, and strategy every time it's always a great game.

It is a great game! I'm still trying to pick up all the basics, but even then it still is really fun. I remember just trying to start a short match for an hour or so and I ended up playing for almost four hours  XD

Do you prefer a certain leader over the others? For me, I've found Louis XIV to fit well with my playing style

I really like playing as Brennus, Roosevelt, or Elizabeth.

It really depends on how I go about playing the game.

Oh neat! Have you tried the military route yet? I haven't because of all the thought and planning you need to go into warfare. Bad things happen when I attempt war  x_x

I tend to gravitate on going for the cultural or tech victories  XD

Military route can be a bit tricky and sometimes takes a lot of luck as well.

You really need to place your cities in strategic places with natural boundaries.
When the time for war comes you should designate large groups of units stationed in your cities, at the borders to defend, and ready to attack when you declare war or suspect another group of declaring war on you.

Allies are important in a military victory, so you should build good relationships with the stronger civilizations early on, once you have conquered your enemies alongside your allies you should be powerful and industrious enough to wipe them out as well.

It is one of the harder victories but also one of the most rewarding.

Oh nice! What usually happens when I go to war is that I end up feeling like I lack troops and have a tough time balancing development with warfare. Perhaps I should try to place a greater emphasis on warfare and focus more on getting money and troops. I'm also still learning the whole diplomacy concept, but it seems easy enough. However, don't civilizations eventually turn on you no matter what sort of relation you have with them? I played a game once where a civilization I had relatively good relations with suddenly demanded all of my money at the threat of war. Sounds risky, but I can see the benefits in the short run.

I've unfortunately never played Civ III and my computer lacks the power to play Civ V  x_x

However, I'm discovering this is just an awesome game series so I should really check the others out
