Disappointing games
« on: March 17, 2013, 05:57:06 PM »
The other thread was locked, so starting one here. What are some of the most disappointing games (that you thought might be good) you've played?

Mine:
1. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (Gamecube).  It was fun playing through the first time, but then having to play through 2 more times to get a mediocre "bonus" ending was so disappointing, I took the game to Gamestop and traded it in, and have never touched the game since.

2. Double Dare (NES). The Q & A round is fun (could often shut out the computer) but the obstacle course...I'd be lucky to get to the 7th obstacle before time ran out.

In my opinion, since Westwood sold to E.A., the Command and Conquers have generally sucked. A lot. Generals was great, but it was the start of a terrible new era.

EA destroys everything they get their hands on :-/ (NASCAR Thunder series was great with 2003 edition, but went down hill after that)

The newest SimCity. Always online DRM, enough said.

Also, Restaurant Empire I/II. Honestly, for being games specializing in running restaurants, you don't feel like you are with all the limitations.

One of my favorite all time games is Outpost 2, but at the same time it might be the most disappointing in my opinion. The game was set up with so much potential, but they did absolutely nothing with it.

The campaign was short and had no variation between the two available factions. The two factions were only really different cosmetically. Once the game reached a certain point, nothing would change. It would be the same fully upgraded colony. The game is a very difficult fight for survival on a new planet, but once you make your colony pretty much self sustained, there is nothing else to do. They might have made more to do once you make yourself really advanced.

Oh, that reminds me of Romance Of the Three Kingdoms III. (You play during the Three Kingdoms era of China, trying to reunite the country). Battles are fun except that Fog of War or rain occurs WAY too much, so that you literally can't see the enemy even if they're standing right next to you until you go to walk and are ambushed. And the copy I had must have been corrupted, because if an enemy tries to attack a battleground (not a city) and the leader is not able to go defend it, the game crashes.

Let me capitalize on how much EA screws IP's.

Dead Space 3.

-Ruined weapon system
-Ruined ammo system
-Lame expectable jumpscares, which are copy-pasted in different locations
-No creativity with new enemies
-Horrible-looking suits

-Money farming devs.

On the other side, if you don't touch multiplayer, play the game on hardest settings and play it solo, it makes for a decent thriller-shooter with some scary aspects, and decent story. Crappy ending if you ask me.

Far Cry 2

Though I suppose it's fun if you like doing the same thing over and over and over and over again.

Not that I really expected too much after it got delayed for so long, but Aliens: Colonial Marines is such a sad and pathetic story on so many levels. I remember the first time I ever heard of that game something like 4 or 5 years ago, and it looked so incredibly cool. Obviously, it came out and was so completely broken it can barely be called a game now.

I agree on A:CM, terribly dissapointing. Really a shame on the dev's parts.
Also, I'd say Far Cry 3 is worse than FC2. I enjoyed FC2, and at the time it was a GREAT game, but with Far Cry 3 they've just made a silly, buggy and mediocre animal hunting game. God the crap you have to find to make gear.

Darkvoid.

I had such high expectations, but there was no story, the graphics weren't that great, and nothing made sense. So disappointing.

"Normal" is a word for something that doesn't exisit. It was created by those who don't challenge the status quo, and don't aspire to greatness.
Happiness is the way the Universe rewards those who face the hardships in their lives head on, with determination in their hearts.
Love is what binds us all together, what keeps us sane, makes us insane, holds the world and Universe together.
In my mind, it doesn't matter where you are going, where you've been, where you are, nor even the journey you're on. What matters is that you keep moving, no matter where you're going, where you've been, and where you are. Just keep moving.

Duke Nukem Forever was a great game.  It just released a decade too late.  If you went into the game expecting halo our call of duty, you were gonna be disappointed.  The game was basically just a HD remake of an old PS2 title.  And if it came out when it was supposed to, it would have been remembered as one of the greatest games from the PS2/Gamecube era.

How could it be a remake if it was intended to be the "ground breaking sequel to one of the greatest shooters of the 90's" as I remember seeing it be called in a pre-review :x
For everything they said it would be, it was way bellow the mark.
