worried about furry conventions...
« on: December 26, 2009, 10:19:52 PM »
Ok, I just was given a book called "Your neighbor is a Dragon" that talks about the subcultures of the Internet, and one of the Chapters they had was a chapter on furries.
It explained the different types, all of which were things i knew,
then gave an account of AnthroCon 2008, which kinda disturbed me. Now i know i am a furry, no doubt about it, but is AnthroCon full of sex and that stuff? I know this is just one account of it, but i really don't want to do this stuff. I am not into the Kinky part of Furrydom, but i am worried that if i go to one of the conventions something like this might happen.
Sorry, I'm rambling...
This is it condensed...
Are the Furcons all sex related, and if so are there ones that aren't?

(Update: My dad just was talking to someone on IMVU that gave a simmilar account, but was a furry there and participated in the "Activities". Am i missing something?)

Most furcons don't actually have that. Anthrocon just happens to have a big thing with the kinky side. The truth is, less than 15% of furries are like that. but you don't have to worry. if you wanna go to a furcon, just look on their site before signing up and check out what's going down.

Never been to a furcon, but to me if you want to go, then go, If not, then don't. Simple as that.

My advise is to go to smaller cons in your area first to get a feel for them. Not only will you save money, but you learn what cons are generally like. AC is like the mother of all Furcons, at least in America. They have to accommodate everyones, erm, interests shall we say? But it really is limited and regulated. I think you have to have proof that you're 18 to even get into those rooms anyways, so all is good here.

ive never been to a con... dont think i ever will.... no idea what its like, im not bothered in all honesty... i got too many other things going on in my life to be bothered....

and i agree with Kindran, if your thinking of going to a furcon, go to a smaller or more 'local' con first....

just remember that most furries are like us lot
"Parents always think kids are wasting their youth, and always have done [so] down through the millennia," says Tom Forsyth of RAD Game Tools. "'That Ug, always holding things. His front paws will develop in funny ways. Why can't he walk on all fours like normal proto-hominids?' And so, whatever the kids spend the most time doing, that's always what parents think is a waste of time, and what is corrupting their lives. It doesn't matter what that is. If all they did was homework, parents would be worrying that their kids aren't becoming well-rounded people. And, in fact, parents do this - enrolling math nerds in karate classes and the like. There is no way to win - parental paranoia ensures that kids are always doing the wrong thing."

Hey OP, you're pretty young - give it a couple years, and see if you can get some mates to go with you. [censored], even non-furry friends would make good company, you don't want to spend three days on your own being hit on by creepy old men when there's lots of fun to be had.

(Plus these cons are bliddy expensive, you don't want to waste your hard-earned allowance).

i once spent 3 days on my own at a convention, and got hit on by 2-3 girls my age. It was an anime convention and I am an attractive man, but hey it was fun. You never know what will happen til you go there.

Dude, that was an animé convention. There are loads of hot animé chicks, very few hot furry chicks. We're talking about furry conventions here.

Furry girls can be pretty!

Okay, not the best choice in words. xD

But just look at the real life section. Everyone looks real nice.

Shiro, i wouldn't worry about it. You're young and I doubt that the yiff is going to be in plain view for everyone to see otherwise it would be illegal. What's the worst that could happen? So someone gives you a compliment. big deal. it's not like they'll force you into the back of their van and...you get it. You have to be 18 to "participate" behind closed doors and NO ONE is going to force you to do anything. If you see some art, so what?

First times can always make you nervous. You shoulda seen me the first time i went to my first SLAYER concert. Now THAT was fear. It wasnt bad at all, in fact I had FUN. When you go, have fun. Dont be all freaked out.
