Hey my name is Kitt. I'm thinking of joining the united states armed forces and I would like some advice. You see if I join I have some goals set in mind of what i would like to do but I'm not too sure of what branch would be most prevalent to my desires. My goals are thus. One I would like to go through the sniper training regimen and become certified as a sniper. Yes I am aware of the 80% drop rate for the first area of the training second I would like to aim for the best of the best wether it be recon seals or rangers. I would like to have a discussion with as many military personnel as I can to get an accurate feed back on what its like and not some recruiter trying to sell me that life is all good in their branch of service. so please post a reply if you think you have any prevailent intell.

Well A rlly close friend of mines nephew talked to me about joining the army, because I wanted to join too
He said somethin like this

Sniping is actually really dangerous. You have to be Going through enemy lines withought being seen or else you might die. I still recommend it for people who really want to, But remember the consequinces of joining the army. A friend of mine was sniped while we were running through the streets, checking for terrorists. He died before he hit the ground.

Then he went on about his tails of the military

Marines and Army are the two choices I'd recommend for sniper school if you absolutely want that. But as for military in general, yes it is a hard life and I would only recommend it to those who can make it through the worst part: Basic training. If you can make it through that, you have the grit to make it through anything else they throw at you. Also, you may want to keep this in mind: Once you go through sniper school, are issued a weapon, and finally get into place to do your job... you are taking lives into your own hands, whether it is friend or foe.

Well, the thing is that if you don't pass that, you may not be cut out for the military lifestyle.

my understanding is that basic is designed to break down the mind and rebuild it in the most effective way. I am not too woried about that. I will deal with it as it comes. What I am trying to do is decide on a course of action. It's a rather large decision to make too lightly.

I am currently enlisted in the Army.

Basic training instills discipline, introduces stressful environments to get you used to them, and bores some fundamentals (e.g. how to properly fire an M4/M16 or basic movement drills). It basically tries to mold you into a capable, resilient, strong soldier, able to withstand the stresses of the battlefield and overcome your enemy.

As far as sniper school goes, I haven't been. I do know some others that have graduated sniper school. It takes a lot of mental focus more than anything else. Ballistics is a key part of it. They say it's the hardest school, but the most rewarding.
