Otherkin or just other?
« on: May 17, 2013, 06:28:11 PM »
I realise there is a lot of confusion with being an otherkin, so I'm going to ask it plain out simply. I believe spiritually that I am my Fursona Sigma, but I recognize that I am human physically and have human limitations. Is this belief Otherkin, Therian, or just something new entirley?

The FCPM GEO Ops RIG provides user survivability and lethality, it's made out of an advanced nano weave which can come together to make a sort of shell. This temporary armor bonus has the ability to stop heavy caliber machine gun shells. Another one of the suit's main features is it's ability to let the user breathe underwater by using a rebreather as well as its ability to become air tight to allow users to survive in vacuums and hazardous areas. The suit additionally has a cloaking ability which gives the user a temporary cloak. It also has the ability to double user strength as the user wills it.

As far as I understand being Therian or Otherkin is that one does know they're physically human. Also such things as a 'physical shift' aren't true either, mental/dream shifts can be possible. Feeling spiritually like -or connected to- an animal or any other kind of creature you can come up with (be it a wolf (therian) or a dragon (otherkin) for example) is one aspect of Therianism/Otherkin.
That is my understanding of it. Hope this answered your question :)

Similar to the word "furry" a therian doesn't have a universally accepted definition. However, there is some very generalized definitions that can be used.

A furry under a vague definition is "someone who enjoys anthropomorphic art"
Similarly, a therian under a vague definition is "Someone who feels a connection to an animal"

The connection does not have to be physical, it can be mental, spiritual or emotional. People who believe themselves to of been an animal in a past life, and thus feel a connection to said animal, are classified as therians. Therefore, because you feel a mental connection with your fursona (though not a physical one) you are classified as a therian.

While I haven't come to a definition of Otherkin, I have come to some properties that are seemingly accepted to be true of an otherkin.
To be an otherkin you must:
-Believe you are partially or entirely non-human
-You believe you are a mythical creature (such as an elf, dragon, alien, demon, angel and so on)

The second definition I'm still trying to get a straight answer on, however you are probably not otherkin unless you believe you are partly or entirely non-human.

I believe that my soul and spirit is my Fursona...that I am actually Sigma and should have been born as such and maybe will become in this life or the next, is that Therian?

Yes, that is therian because you feel a spiritual and mental connection to your animal, your fursona.

A question is whether you're otherkin, again I don't know too much about that definition but I can say that, under my definition and I would think generally accepted definition, you are indeed a therian

Oh and I should of mentioned that there is a thread that specifies what these mean in case you want to do more reading
