I actually posted a thread on here about it, though it got locked before I could make any more updates =V

Right now I'm just running the Consumer Review, there's already a new version of the "Beta" released, which is supposed to be as close to the release as we're gonna get to use, for free.

In all honesty, it is Windows 7, just given a new coat, buffed, and shined.
This is in no way, however, a "Vista" as some people are trying to label it.

Yes, it has a new Start Menu, using the Metro style that can be found on Windows 7 Phones, Xbox 360, and Zune. Is it that awful? No, it really isn't. You'll hardly even us it if you can manage it. In all honesty, it's more slim lined. Some things are easier to find now, than they were in Windows 7. You still have the Control Panel and all those functions, as well as a new Settings screen/app, and more.
It also has a lot more support for wireless devices via Bluetooth, etc. It's also got great Multi-Screen support, as well. It's also lighter on RAM, and seems to be a bit faster in terms of file transfers and things of the sort.

The *only* issues I've had thus far, are a few obvious compatibility glitches among programs, and the fact that it changes from the DirectX SDK to Windows SDK, which means that some games won't recognize DirectX on the machine, when it in fact is still there. (This seems to be mainly an issue on older games, and PC Ports.)

ALSO something to note. It is still rumored that Microsoft may release Windows 8 with a "true desktop" variant, which'll allow you to use Windows 8 on a desktop, like you would normally use Windows 7, though this somewhat defeats the purpose of Windows 8, you still do get the new features that come with it.

Damn, really?
Not that I don't mind the Metro Start, but still.

And yeah, it's pretty great OS. Though I recommend getting an OEM copy, that way it doesn't cost as much as a regular one.
Difference is, you can really only install it on one machine, but it's I believe $100 less than the regular copy?

I really hate the metro start on my desktop (and laptop even more)...
I suppose however there should be hacks/mods to get it back to 7-style :D

Yeah, I'm assuming that there'll be people out there that'll make it possible to have the old start menu.
I personally hardly ever have to go to start, except for when I need to search for a program.

Oooh, that'd be nice =o
I always figured that was just for that one promotional sale where you buy a Windows 7 PC and get an upgrade for a discount.

I sure hope you aren't into Steam gaming when you upgrade to Windows 8, several games will not work at all or as well as they did on Windows 7. Make sure to look up other sources about games no longer working at this point.

This is mostly due in part to both the DirectX issues, and just plain compatibility issues. But it's been assured that with the *full* version, most of those games will be Patched for Windows 8. Plenty of them already have been for both the Consumer and Release Previews

I'm going to stick with Windows 7 ... sorry Windows 8 is going to be a flop tbh. My next OS upgrade will probably Windows X (10/what ever they wanna call it..)

I'm using the release preview and have zero problems with any game including old ones such as Counter Strike 1.6 and Half-Life.
Anything that works on 7 appears to work on 8 perfectly although very rarely you need to use Windows 7 compatibility mode.
I have properly disabled UAC using a registry tweak which I'm sure would be the fix for the problem with Steam games, as mine are working perfectly.

Make sure you update to the Windows 8 graphics drivers on the Nvidia/ATI site, the Windows 7 ones still work but I'd not stick to the stock drivers due to them not liking OpenGL that much.

The UI is actually improved besides a few minor things I don't like.
Classicshell can fix most of your problems.

Performance is quite good and boot times are MUCH better than Windows 7.

I wasn't a big fan of Windows 8 either, I tried the consumer preview when it first came out and removed it 10 minutes later. I'll probably try it with my new laptop that i'm getting because i'll get the free upgrade, but who knows if i'll keep it once tweaked.

Honestly, it's something that you've got to give some time to.

I gave myself two months before I even bothered trying to bash/support it, and honestly, it's a pretty good OS. Worth the price of a full OS? No.
But if it's price isn't as high as 7's initial price, then I'll get it for sure. And regardless if there truly is a "desktop mode", I'd still use it. It does utilize speed/ram much better, among other things.
