My band is going to hate me xD
« on: April 13, 2010, 08:46:39 PM »
My band is a heavy metal/punk/rock/thrash group.  Now...  I'll admit I like to rock as much as the next guy...  But I keep deviating from the normal pattern of the group.  We want to put a demo out and me...  I'm all about the music, the experience, the atmosphere, and I have a very take it leave it attitude.  Now...  Naturally I have deviant personality, not criminally or insane, but...  I never liked sticking to one path.  I never believed in any kind of linear path to anything.  I am who I am...  I'm going to do what I'm going to do and I'm going to have fun doing it!  Anyway....

Down here!  :)

I like metal influences...  But I also like non metal influences just the same.  Neo-folk has really taken me and I made two pages of song lyrics that I want to make into title tracks.  What's the theme?  You guessed it...  neo-folk acoustic over black metal guitars.  Sounds crazy?  It is.  I like it that way.  It's something that has only been done with one band.  I want that.  I want that uniqueness.  I want that...  shadow, the mysterious cloak that follows us as we create.  I don't want to write the same old boring metal...  But I also don't want to blow possibly my only chance of being in a band all together.  Like I said I like to rock and play loud annoying metal...  But there are enough loud annoying metal bands out there...  I want music people will enjoy the first time they listen to it until they die.

Here's what I have:

The Pale and Grey - *lyrics complete, working on music*

and

The Wolves in Spirit - *lyrics still in progress*

My idea is...  This is going to be the foundation of for our demo.

What the first on is...  It's a very dark, melancholic, experience.  The second is more of a melodic aspiration to nature.  If you guys was examples PM me.  I'm not going to post this stuff openly un-copyrighted...   I'm just not going to take the risk.

As a side note...  If I don't know you very well I might say no...  I'm going to post a reminder at the top that says *burn after reading* ie...  delete that PM once you're done reading/admiring.

Anyway...  My weapon of choice lately has been my hunk of rosewood (my acoustic :3).  That's where the neo-folk influence kicks in.  My idea is to open and close both with eerie, soothing, and melodic acoustic pieces and have that element linger on through the songs.  I think it adds the best atmosphere.  I hope others feel the same way.

Update:

Well...  It went over surprisingly well!  My idea of post-rock/neo-folk/black metal was at high acclaim...  But the answer I got was pretty much this:  "Hey, we all have different unique influences we're bringing to the band.  Once we get everything flowing we're going to incorporate everything and get our sound."

So...  I'm freakin' psyched.  This might actually work in some crazy, awesome way!  ^_^

The last band I was in had this unique Heavy Metal//Punk//Hard Rock//Classic Rock style. But we broke up, and this was when I was learning double bass beats.

I hope your band is doing great. Looking forward to hearing some tunes :)
