Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time 3d review (spoilers)
« on: June 22, 2011, 08:48:16 PM »
Ive been playing the remake of ooc on my 3ds for a couple days now and I gotta say, its much better than the 64 version. Yes, it is the exact same game with better graphics but the things that they added to it make it so much better. For example. You have on your touch screen the following
  • A full map of either hyrule or the current dungeon floor
  • a first person view/navi button (more detail on first person later)
  • an ocarina button for instant use
  • 4 buttons that replace the c buttons, X, Y, and two touch screen ones

I always had the ocarina in my c button so its like having 2 extra items on hand at all times for me, which is a big plus.
Now the first person view utilizes the 3ds gyro sensor, which means you can move the 3ds to look, or aim your bow and other items. You can look around a room, just by moving around in your chair! remember the forest temple boss that came out of the pictures? well now you can just swivel in place and shoot him much easier. Using the bow, slingshot, and hookshot has never been easier before.

The graphics are amazing. all the old shops and dungeons look new with new textures. Link looks kinda funny sometimes when he holds his ocarina with his teeth out, but he looked funny on the old version too. The 3d effect rarely gets in the way and is really just a novelty. I will say though that after playing it in 3d, I cant switch to 2d and play it, its that nice.

The game is exactly as I remember it, cutscene for cutscene, word for word. They've taken an already great game and made it even better. I give this game a full and well deserved, 10/10, for excellent graphics, gameplay, and overall fun.

I forgot to mention that they added a new feature too. go to sleep in your bed in kokiri forest to refight any boss youve fought before.

I've never played Ocarina of Time before, so I was planning on buying a 3DS just for this game. I have only one question. Is the dialog spoken or displayed as text? Yes, this is a deal breaker for me. :P

its displayed as text. you gotta read. the most amount of voice acting is a laugh or a AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

*sigh* A handheld powerful enough to handle 3D and they still won't hire decent voice actors...

Sad face.  :'(

Zelda games dont talk not because theyre not able to, its more of a tradition that they dont. but we're getting off topic so Ill end by saying that its still good without voice actors.

*hisses at tangletail*  >:(

It's not my fault, I just can't get as into a game if the characters aren't talking, okay?!  :(

In all honesty, I'll probably still pick it up. I love 3D, the game is a classic, and I miss having a good handheld. The last one I had was an original GameBoy Advance that went on a family vacation to Hawaii with me, and never came back.  :'(  I haven't owned a handheld console since.

*claws paper into shreds*

Yeah, methinks it got lost during the trek through airport security.

*Sigh* If I had the money, I'd go out and buy a 3DS and this game today. Much as the voice acting thing annoys me, I was exaggerating when I said it was a deal breaker. I'm an author, it's a habit. :P
