Leaning back in chairs
« on: October 03, 2012, 03:29:55 AM »
Not sure what this topic should be under so I just choose general but For some reason I can't help leaning back in my chairs. I either rock in the chair or lean back. My mom says I can't do It since I could break the chair. I can't control it. I feel like my mom and teachers at school always yell at me. I have fallen back and the worst that has happened is I got a bruise. Though I usually lean back on something like a wall or another child's desk. I really don't under stand. If it is about the chair breaking I lean agents things. Do people make chairs designed for leaning back and rocking.

Personally when I was in high school(And middle) I would do it all the time. Its part of my ADHD where I got to be moving at ALL times, even in the slightest of ways! So I would Lean back in my chair rocking it. The reason why teachers don't want you doing it is because of safety, there job, and the school could get fined. So the bored enforces it on the teachers, who in turn enforce it onto you. If you where to lean back in your chain and hurt yourself. The school could get fined or sued. But if you where warned  and still do it, its your fault. And if teachers don't en fore it when they are told to, it can cost them pay or there job.
And at home, that's just because your parents love you and don't want you to get hurt. ^_^

What I did to fix my habit was get an Adirondack chair.(I made my own)  Its basically a chair with legs that go back, insted of down and it is built to lounge in.

I kept leaning back in my desk chair, then the back broke off.  D:

Granted, I cut off the arms that kinda keep the damn thing rigid.  :|

I like to lean back in my chair too.  At school I always lean back; there's usually nothing behind me though so I just hold on to the desk.  :P

Yes they're called rocking chairs.  :P  Office chairs also generally lean back as well as those big sofa like chairs (Lazyboy chairs for example).

You can always tell if a teacher's gonna be nice by whether or not they let you lean back in your chair in class.  :P

It's honestly a bad habit of mine. I haven't fallen once yet but I don't imagine I'm going to test my luck. I even try to show off with how far back I can go without falling when there's nothing behind me, but I quit that after somebody decided to try and remove my foot from under the desk. Too many people who'd just relish a good chance to do that.

Not exactly the best of ideas, and I don't think I'll be continuing anytime in the future. For now, I have chairs that are made to lean back.

I use to do that a lot but I don't so much any more, now I sit in my computer chair (lawn chair) sideways and rest my feet on the corner of my desk and on rare occasions rock in my chair

I sometimes wonder if the comforting feeling of rocking in the chair goes back to being rocked in a cradle as a baby, or if it is something much deeper.

I remember leaning back in my chair once when I was a kid and only once because some kid in my class pushed me and everyone laughed. It's strange how such trivial embarassment can stick with you for years.
