Crewbrothers and Crewsisters;

I've been part of the Furry Fandom for quite some time now, but I'm afraid I'd never come across these Forums beforehand. I'm currently on and posting on DeviantArt (http://eensy-speck-werewuff.deviantart.com/) and FurAffinity (http://www.furaffinity.net/user/twopaw/) and I've been doing my artwork in progressively-detailed stages since I was a flea, although in most of that time I'd not posted anything online (the closest thing being on one or two local dialup BBSes a very long time ago, then on Elfwood (currently my page there is long-unmaintained)).

My fursona was formed initially as an 'old' World Of Darkness 'Werewolf: the Apocalypse' werewolf (Garou) but I've long since developed his background in a different direction than the RPG took (of course, a big deciding factor was White Wolf's flushing the oWoD down the john in 2003). I'm a big fan of werewolves and therians in general, along with most canids and felines, although as to friends I'm not picky on species.

I hope you'll permit this old son to stay a while, and....uh, wuff. o_o

I must say your character is ian interesting one, especially seeing how it has evolved over time. Very nice to see such a process.

Had to look up the term (I've heard it a few times but never really looked into it); I guess there are definitely elements of me that question my nature as such (being non-human) but I hadn't really given it a lot of thought recently. I know my writing and artwork seems to flow a bit better when I detach myself from self-visualizing as an absolute-human (certainly with my were and furry artwork and writing) but I'm usually quite able to sympathize with a character or person I'm writing about or interacting with. I'm comfortable with maintaining elements of being an otherkin, as defined, but I don't think I completely identify as one.

It's kind of you to say, ami. Twopaw as a character is definitely an alternate-'me', and even if I had never identified with him as such (and I know for the most part I have) I know how far he's walked with me in the last twenty years of my life, starting out as a modified RPG character and eventually, developing both psychologically and physically over the last two decades (more often than not paralleling my own if not in synch with him entirely), becoming my voice in my artwork and writing. I don't claim to be Twopaw as much as he's staked a definite claim in me, and I'm happy to share space with someone who thinks like I do.

Main difference between Otherkin and Therian is usually Therian are usually animals (dogs, cats, snakes, insects, etc.) while Otherkin tend to be creatures (dragons, elves, chimera, etc.)
For the most -if not completely- they're pretty similar

Hee, again very much true in my case. I know I got a few knocks over the years about how well-built some of my characters can be (in the cases I can think of clearly it was one particular artist pal, and he meant no harm in it. Guy's got a sense of humour, he does!); although I've tried to improve on the quality of the artwork I've done in general over the years. The important thing for me is the enjoyment I get and the enjoyment other folks get in my expressing myself through it. It's always fun when it's something that fits into your habits so well!

I got that kind of impression from the Wikipedia article I looked up; elves and 'humanlike' folks were a couple of the first examples listed (like centaurs and merfolk, for example, and dragons were in there too), but I'm glad you told me about that particular difference. I'm definitely a therian thus, or part of me is anyway. o_o
