(A bit of a cross-post from the other sites that I frequent, but here goes)
While I have had my ups and my downs (going through more 'downs' as of late), I am still a lucky sonovagun.
Tonight, less than 2 hours ago, a fire broke out less than 50 feet from my apartment, which has pretty much destroyed eight sections (one building) of apartment in the multi-building complex I live in. The families who were in the apartment managed to get out safely for the most part, one known injured.
While I helped with evacuating people out of the building to make sure if it did spread that it would not harm more, it still surprises me that my apartment building, one of the closest to the scene, is relatively untouched. While I will not need to be directly in any prayers or well-wishes, the ones who lost everything will definitely need it. I might have a lung full of smoke, but that is just like old-times on the flight-line for me.
So far nothing has come out of what caused it or who is involved.
To give a TLDR version... be grateful for everything you have: whether it is health, safety, or security. And when someone around you might need a hand, you never know if you yourself might be asking for a helping-hand in return.
