Creating A Universe- Looking for ideas.
« on: May 15, 2015, 12:04:46 PM »
So, I've decided to start writing more. I think I need to practice more, and it will help with my GCSEs. I thought of creating a universe, and slowly filling it out with all types of media and writing and whatnot. Problem is, I need characters, so I wanted to know if anyone would want their fursonas to appear in the universe? It could be a major role, or even a small role, it just depends on what you would want.

The universe itself does not revolve around one being, but is a place where many live. It is populated by many different kinds of beings, from anthropomorphic animals to humans, and even beyond. Most of the stories happen on one planet, but space travel, magic, technology and gods will feature heavily. I am also looking for names of places and even entire planets to include.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

I could contribute names and places. Possibly written concepts for architecture specifications or weapon designs if applicable.

Alright, I'll post here whenver I am looking for a paw  :)

Also, here is a quick attempt at a creation story. I just thought I'd start off basic.

In the beginning, there was nothing.
Nothing lived.
Nothing died.
And then, from that empty, useless nothingness... Came something. That something drew. It drew stars of fiery gas, and rocks of earth and ice. He drew impossibly huge landscapes, down the tiniest of particles. He drew, and as he did, he created. Created something, from nothing.
Nothing, however, is a FALSE CONCEPT. There never really is nothing. Something always lurks, away from prying eyes. And it is true with this tale. A twisted, distorted vision of a future that never came to be watched, judging and despising all that was created. It was pushed far back, away from all that existed, and into the dark, devoid place beyond reality.  This gave it it's name- the emptiness.  Unfazed, the creator continued to paint, to write, to pretend. He played in lands of happiness and joy, but he also played in lands which he corrupted to his own will. He created great plagues, and wars on scales that could end planets. He enjoyed to watch the things he created fight, and to kill one another.

Eventually, he slept. Growing tired of creating and destroying, he sent himself to an eternal slumber. In the final moments he created 5 last things- 5 final goodbyes. These goodbyes would take a life of their own, to go and live their lives independently of their creator. All they were asked of, however, was to continue creating. And so they did. One, known as Varaskon, created life, revelling in the beings he had created's lives. Another, Ranskoran, built great structures that still stand to today, almost as old as creation itself. They towered over entire civilisations, becoming echoes of a time long passed. The third, Draconas, created machines that could calculate impossibilities in an instant. They could span entire solar systems, or could fit into the palm of ones hand.  He became revered as the god of technology, a title assigned by the mortal beings that inhabited the universe. The other two of these goodbyes, however, hid. They used their powers of creation, to turn themselves mortal, and to live among the races,  holding no knowledge of who they were.

They are the two uncorrupted sons of a god, and they don't even know it.

And that, is how the universe inside by head came to be. I created the lands that fill these words, and now I open it to another world. This is a realm of impossibilities and laws, but not of the impossible. ANYTHING has the potential to be created, and anything has the potential to be destroyed.

Welcome to Aracnos, the universe of the unhinged.

Accidentally hit enter. So as I was saying, maybe we could trade around ideas.

I've been worldbuilding a lot, I even have a thread in this board with pages of detail about a particular universe. I found that with a universe you need to have the following things, in order for it to be interesting.

1. Every "fact" about your universe should be meaningful. Every race should be used to explore a theme, like it may be a race that lives for 10,000 years, how does that affect their society? What consequences would living so long have? Do they still fear death as much as everyone else, more, less? Will we always fear our mortality, will life always be too short? etc etc. This doesn't just go for races, but race interactions, events, battles, gods, technology, etc. You should have a clear idea on what you want to CONVEY by adding something to your universe, everything should be there to explore some theme.
2. Your universe should have at least THREE original things. This may not sound like much, but "original" is very hard to come by these days. Want a universe where a god dies? Done. Want an alliance full of races? Done. Want a world that exists in the sky? Done. Try to come up with at least three things that are original, that don't come from any popular works of fiction and make sure they're important in someway to the story. Note: Your universe doesn't have to be entirely original, you can have three original things and then have the rest influenced by other universes, this is fine, as long as you explore these components in a unique or interesting way.

Just some things to remember.
