Whoa, slow down while you type. Alright as for your choice of 'color' and 'fursona' (animal you choose to be), just choose something you feel closest to how 'you' want yourself to be. Some people sell avatar items on IMVU for such fursonas.

In a nutshell it's just another fan type.
Like trekies or star wars fans or bikers.
You just have to like the characters. Then geek out about it. :p
That's all there is to it.
The rest is the same with anything else.
Adult magazines are to yiff art as are to Hentai.
Sure there are plenty of furry terms for different things, but the only thing different is that it revolves around furry.

I more-or-less just related how my perspective on life to the closest animal I could think of. I'm loyal to a fault, fierce around people I don't know... so I was thinking more towards wolf. I had to make a bit of originality and base it off of a 'modified' version of my Gaia character... so it eventually became this.

Well anyway, like Vosur and WingedZephyr said, its based on what animal you feel closes too.

Sometimes that animal might change ( I know a few in the forums whos animals/Fursonas have changed ). Sometimes it can be a hybrid or whole bunch of animals in one you feel closes too. ^^

I chose a ferret because Im hyper-active, Cuddley, Random, Rare(Personalility wise), Cute, Sometimes Misunderstood, and a few other attributes.
