Furring, sew or glue?
« on: August 31, 2016, 06:09:10 PM »
Ok so looking at furring head stuff it seems people ether sew or glue.

What is your opinion on these and what do you think is better.

In general I have understood (and have seen other fursuit makers -amateurs as well as professional- do this, and I have done this myself too :P) that the parts of the fur are hand-sown together. There are some key points you use hotglue to stick the whole fur pattern altogether on the foam of the head you would have made :)
(Such as around the eye holes, the nose, etc.)

Hope this helps?

Ok was just looking at one tutorial saying you could do all glue and no sewing.

You could, but sewing -I think- is more... safer? I want to use another word, but I cannot figure it out right now.
You should do whatever style you think suits you best, whatever work-style, so to say. So it's mostly from learning and experimenting that you know eventually how and what to do ^^

From making two heads so far, hand sewing just plain looks nicer than just gluing the pieces down. And you don't have the chance of glue sticking out, edges of a fray poking out, and hard spots near the seams to keep the edges fraying :P
But yeah, hand sewing, and hot gluing around the edges, like nose, eyes and ears, around the neck and in any curves is the best thing to do.
