that feeling

You know that feeling where you try your best to be selfless and help, but in the end it seems like you're always screwing up or being selfish anyways? Yeah, I've got that in spades. Happens a lot though, which I'm trying to just get used to. I don't know, life seems to really love kicking me and just about everyone I know, so always ending up a failure doesn't really surprise me anymore. Still just as depressing though!

I just want people and the world itself to be happy and cooperative, but nothing is ever easy and nobody is ever kind.

I guess the word that comes to mind is hopeless? Not like despairing or anything, but that feeling where you just kind of want to give up?

There's a saying: "no good deed goes unpunished" and I think there is often a sad truth to that.  However I think there are still good reasons to try and help others.  But you do need to find a balance between knowing when you can help and even if you can when you should and that comes mostly with experience.

If you feel like you're doing it wrong, remember it's a stepping stone to doing it right.  Or at least better ;)
