How about making your home more energy efficient instead.

Turn your computer off while not in use.
Switch to Compact Fluorescent Light  bulbs. http://www.greenelectricalsupply.com/compact-fluorescent-lamps.aspx?gclid=CPa29_DdspICFRMYkgodv1ffLw
Don't turn the air below 70 degrees or have it at 75 when not at home.
Turn the TV off if you're not really gonna watch it.
Don't leave the door open long. (I hope you weren't actually born in a barn. lol)
Don't have the refrigerator door open long. (The light actually does go off when you close it. :p )

(These are some things that involve money, but help greatly)
Dual paned windows will save energy. http://www.soundproofwindows.com/dual.html
Using other insulating methods will help greatly as well as buying a heat pump instead of the general energy hog air conditioner. About heat pumps
Solar panels are great for heating as well as producing your own energy.

We have compact florescent lights throughout our house.

I have the pipe that runs from the boiler to my room closed off so the rest of the house can get heated without wasting energy (I also like to keep my room cold so I sleep better). Our computer has an automatic shutoff option that shuts it off after ten minutes of idling.
