Dynavwryn (the story of my fursona)

Chapter one

My name is Dynavwryn. I don’t remember the name my mother gave me at birth, I hardly remember anything about my mother at all. But what I do remember, has left me wishing I didn’t know her, for the knowledge that we were separated shortly after birth has left me hollow inside and short with people I am in contact with.

She was a grey wolf. She had piercing blue eyes and a howl that would make your heart melt, granted I have only heard her howl thrice before, I long to hear it again, to comfort me, to console me, to act as my security blanket. He eyes, always looking up at the mountains, searching for something that wasn’t there, or something that would be there, to kill me. He fur blew delightfully in the autumn wind. I remember during a thunderstorm she would take her muzzle and nuzzle me as I shake uncontrollably from the cracks in the sky.  I would sit at the bank of the river and watch her fish, scooping up fish with her paws like a bear or just lunging her face at them and catching them in her teeth.  The euphoria I would feel from just splashing my paw in the river and falling asleep in the sunlight, left me wishing her back.

I look nothing like my mother. I am a black wolf, but I have a stripe of my mothers’ fur going from the tip of my nose, around my head and down my back to the tip of my big fluffy tail. I never saw much of a ‘dad’ but I never asked. I have my mothers eyes, but they were friendly and warm and full of life, now they are listless and faded. My mother would smile when I barked, saying it was like an angles voice- I think she was happy with me- but I have no association with sinners or saints.  from what I do remember of me and my mothers interactions, I loved it.

I was a baby fur at the time. I remember romping around with my mother in our den and both of us giggling. We would spend our days teaching me how to forage-as I was not old enough to kill yet- and our nights grooming my fur, making it soft and shiny. She would always say that my fur was more beautiful then hers, but I replied the opposite. On spring days we would run through the foothills, stopping occasionally to look up at the mountain peak. She would tell me that I was destined to have it all, that I would be the one on that mountain top, on top of the world, reaching for the sky, arms raised in a V. to be the only one on that mountain peak,. Those words filled me with joy and hope, but the joy has left my mind in an exodus with all of my other emotions, I am a shell. Vaguely, from what I remember of our interactions, I was happy. Until…

My rite of passage, my first kill. Me and my mother were stalking rabbits, for two hours we hugged the earth with our bellies, calculating when to strike from the safety and seclusion of our bush. My mother told me that she would make the first move, to give me an example of the procedure. She darted form the bush and in a flash, she was on the ground, breathing heavily in a pool of her blood, the rabbits scurried away. I scurried to her side and out from the bush opposite ours, emerged -what I now know Is a human- a figure, sporting the colors of the forest. Overcome with fear I scampered away, he didn’t follow.

Nightfall, the forest is filled with a pungent odor, the balance seems out of order. No serenade from the crickets, the song of the river, no longer put me to sleep, I couldn’t sleep, I had things to do. I returned to were I last saw my mother. But I was filled with fear, she was no longer lying in the grass, she wasn’t lying anywhere. The grass was flattened at the spot were I remembered her. I sniffed around. I smelled blood.

There was a trail of my mothers blood leading away from the flattened grass. I followed the trail for about a mile until I arrived at a campsite. I was in horror. The ‘human’ was sitting by a fire, and next to him, was my mother! She wasn’t moving, moving closer I noticed it was just her pelt. my ‘mother’ was being turned on a spit by the human. I gasped and started to sob until the human snapped to attention, he stepped closer. He grabbed for, what I know now is a rifle, and continued at me. I ran away, I don’t know were but I ran. All I did as a baby fur was run.

Chapter two

My mothers death was a funeral of no tears. How could I cry?  I didn’t know my mother, but I cried anyway. Still running, with tear filled eyes, I remember a fight we had, moments before she took me hunting. I made sure I voiced my displeasure in killing a living thing. I made so sure of it that I ended up telling her that I hated her. I didn’t mean it! I want to take it back! But I can’t. my legs gave out from running for an hour straight and I skidded across the ground, and sobbed. “I’m sorry mommy” I repeated over and over until I cried myself to sleep.

Something jarred me awake in the middle of the night, whether it be the falling rain and impending storm, or that I didn’t have someone to hold me during this thunderstorm. Looking through the rain I could see a small floating light, I panicked and backed into some bushes, But the light was getting closer. I cringed and hugged the earth with my belly, trying to make myself smaller. But the light was getting closer. Slowly I could see the contour of a ‘human’ and I started to whimper because I believed that whatever killed my mother had caught up to me. Five feet from me now, his face was illuminated by the light, it was his lantern. He seemed older than the one that killed my mother. Coming to the conclusion that he wasn’t her to kill me, I crept out of the bushes and to his feet (I don’t know why I approached him, possibly being at such a young age I needed someone to care for me, but I digress). He smiled and picked me up, whispering “it’s ok baby wolf, you’re safe now” and he started walking again, carrying me. I put my thumb in my maw and drifted to sleep

***

I awoke to a cool breeze blowing through my dirty fur. The smell of salt encircled me. Opening my eyes I was on the foothills that me and my mother would whimsically run through. But looking into the distance, I didn’t see the forest I was born in, I saw a beach. Foamy waves crashing upon the jagged rocks, finally coming ashore until quickly receding back into itself.  “the ocean is beautiful isn’t it” a voice said from behind me. I meeped and quickly turned about. It was the human that rescued me from the rain the previous night “who…who are you” I asked cautiously and curiously, with a hint of fear in my voice.  “ Triest, call me Triest” he said, looking into the ocean. I stood on all 4’s and stretched. My body was sore from the strenuous amount of running I did the night prior. Shaking my fur out, I started to whimper, as a familiar odor was wafting through the air now, and odor that reminded  me of my mother. it was lilac. This side of the mountain was covered in lilac. Me and my mother would sometimes come over to this side and roll around in the lilac until we smelled so heavenly that we would end up just cuddling for hours, smelling each others fur. “what’s wrong little baby fur?” Triest inquired. “my…my mother was…” tears started to stroll from my eyes and down my cheeks. Triest picked me up and rocked me in his arms.  “tis a tragedy young one, to lose your mother at such a young age, and to a hunter.” Triest said reassuringly.  Stunned that he knew about my mother I asked him how he knew. “ I am a sage young one, I was in the forest gathering herbs when I heard the hunter fire his rifle, then I saw you dart off into the distance. I went out to look for you, for a young one like yourself shouldn’t be in this world with no one to bring him up” Triest said, tickling my belly to cheer me up. I giggled and he smiled. “you have the voice of an angel young one.” I started to tear up again, everything reminded me of my mother. He started to rock me again, quietly singing ‘hush little baby’ and I soon calmed down and cuddled him. (Triest was one of the only that I had come into contact with and trusted from start, let alone he was also the only one I trusted). Looking of into the distance, towards the ocean, Triest remarked on the gathering dark clouds, “come on young on, lets go into my cave, it is going to rain soon.” Triest headed up the foothill to the a cave in the middle of the mountain, still rocking me in his arms.

I was at piece (I remember peace, such a delicacy that my life of decadence strived to reclaim), but my delusion ended. Triest was pacing back and forth, muttering something -protection spells- to himself. I took my thumb out of my mouth and crawled over to Triest. “what’s wrong?” Triest looked at me, almost reluctant to speak. “it’s not good young one.” thunder roared so loud that the entire cave seemed to vibrate, stalactites fell from the ceiling, almost impaling me if Triest didn’t pull me away in time. Cradled in his arms I looked outside from the mouth of the cave.  A torrent was cascading form the blackened sky. The once bright valley was shrouded in darkness, only to be illuminated with the frequent and sporadic lighting flashes. Triest spoke in such a shaky and worried tone he was almost inaudible: “it’s end times!”   lighting struck the ground, causing a chasm to open up. Lava began to flow from the abyss, consuming the foothill in fire, no more lavender, no more grass, just scorched dirt. A loud screech emanated from the abyss and fir creatures began crawling their way out of the abyss, accompanied by an immense dragon. His wingspan covered most of the valley, dripping lava onto the wilting flora. His glowing red body, was evaporating the water around him into steam. He looked at me (I was young so my depth perception was still developing, he was actually looking at Triest) and screeched. The dragon and the fire creatures turned in the direction of the mountain and headed towards us. Triest grabbed his lantern, and took me deep into the cave. Triest put his hand on my shoulder and looked into my eyes, I could see the level of distress he was facing. “look young one, unfortunately I can’t tell you what I wanted to at this moment -he sighed- those creatures… are coming for me…. And I can’t leave you without protection because I am sure they would want to kill anyone I am in contact with.” I was dumbfounded. “buh…..buh…” I stammered. Triest out his finger to my lips and whispers “ssshh baby fur, you  will be protected.” he stood back and razed his hand outwards to me. He mumbled something and a flash of light came from his palm, and then…. Things went black…. That last thing I remember is everything was warm.

chapter3

It seemed like seven lifetimes. Floating lifelessly in an abyss known only to me. I felt like I was in my mothers’ womb again. I felt warm, I felt secure… I felt safe. My existence on this planet has been short and I already hope for an escape from it. I wanted to reside in this bliss for how ever long an eternity would last. Happiness always came at a cost for me. In this stupor my body grew, but I remained with the mentality of a baby fur; eyes first opened to the world and scared of every little thing. But in this delusion I hadn’t a worry about what ailments came about, I was happy.

After a while with my thoughts I discovered that I wasn’t alone. I noticed that my intelligence was increasing exponentially. My vocabulary was increasing along with my capability of logical thinking. And I soon realized that Triest was educating me, although I couldn’t see him - I could only see black- but I could hear his voice, and he was educating me. He told me stories of his past, magical tales of how he has slain dragons and other mythical creatures. He told me why the creatures from hell, coupled with the dragon, were after him:

“ young one, I can’t tell you much right now, but what I can tell you might make you understand why I had to put you to sleep… we didn’t meet by chance young one, and there are forces that don’t want me guiding you. Forces that would stop at nothing to destroy you, before you have a chance to destroy them. The elders of the lost land have charged me with the task of guiding you. So I put you to sleep young one, because you aren’t ready to fight yet.”

Eventually I gradually started to wake up. I slowly became aware of my surroundings. I could smell that I was in a forest, but it didn’t smell the same as the forest I was born in. I could hear the leaves on the treetops rustle in the wind. The overall atmosphere of the forest was melancholy at best, there were no animals to bask in its serene beauty, and thus, it was dying inside from this pensive loneliness.

Finally I snapped out of my hibernation. I hadn’t seemed like I had woken up, due to the fact that the forest was as dark as my sleep was. I stumbled around the underbrush a while until I came across a path. Along this path were patches of mushrooms, illuminated with what seemed to be the essence of life itself. The soft green glow, induced a great euphoria upon the first glance. The mushrooms were the only source of light in this forest, and the darkness coupled with the feeling of loneliness, made me feel at peace. I decided to walk along the path.

After about a mile of walking, the path turned into a hill, at the top of a hill I could barely see a stone structure. Something compelled me to discover what that structure was, so I walked up the hill. To my surprise It was a stone mansion. The windows were shattered and there was ivy branches growing up the side. The mansion was decrepit and solemn in all of its dying beauty. My ears flickered and I turned around and looked up into the sky, it was starting to snow. I looked back at the mansion and noticed the front door was open slightly, so I decided to take residence in this mansion until the snow died down. On the second floor there was a nursery, with a crib, a nightlight, and various toys inside. Looking around the upper floor I discovered that the crib was the only bed, “at least I have a bed to sleep in“ I said with a sigh… I lived in this mansion for a year, I don’t know why, but it seemed that something didn’t want me to leave, until one night, I head Triest talking to me in my sleep:

“this is not your average forest young one. The forest is alive, it feels, it lives, and it protects. The mushrooms, show the mood of the forest. When they don’t glow, it means the forest is lonely, but when they glow, it means the forest is content, and the forest doesn’t want you to leave.”

Over that year I had collected and read many books that I had found inside the mansion., although most of them were baby books, with whimsical illustrations and simple storylines, one book made my residency worth it. In the basement I found a tattered spell book behind a locked door -which I had to break open-. Some of the spells were basic: invisibility, fireballs, etc. but I did teach myself how to teleport, thinking it might be useful.

My stay in the forest was pleasurable at best, but one September day my residency would come to a close. The sun had set and the forest was still visible with the twilight. I was looking for dinner and I found a rabbit to chase. The rabbit lead me to a path outside of the forest and stopped chasing it because I almost ran into a black bear. ‘damn’ I whispered  as the rabbit ran back into the woods.

“Hiya little wolf” said the bear “do you have a name”. I tilted my head. “yeah… my name is….Dynavwryn”. the bear leaned forward and scritched me “my name is midnight” “do you have a home” midnight asked curiously. I pointed to the now dark forest, “I live in the forest”. “"isn’t that a bit scary?" Midnight said wondering. I stood up and was eye level with Midnight “nah I like the darkness.” “you must be very brave "Midnight said, patting me on the head "your a very friendly wolf" he smiled happily. He seemed abnormally happy. "do you have a mommy and daddy?" Midnight asked inquisitively. Remembering my mother I lowered my head and sighed “no.” "aww you poor thing..."Midnight said "so who takes care of you?" Midnight asked hugging me. “I take care of myself” I retorted. “well would you like me to take care of you” midnight said with a smile. (to this day I don’t understand how midnight was so happy) “I don’t know” I replied, looking off into the distance. “"well I would be glade to adopt you" Midnight said happily "I could be your new daddy" Midnight said nicely.

“but I like the seclusion” I chirped. "don’t you get lonely?” Midnight said sighing. “sometimes, but I have books and toys to take my mind away form such feelings.” "I know the feeling” Midnight said smiling. "well if your ever lonely or you want a home come down the road to my house” Midnight said with a smile "I take care of other ones like you who have no home "Midnight said nicely. My stomach growled and I nodded “but only for a little while, the forest will miss me.” Midnight smiled and we walked down the road.

We walked about a mile or two and arrived upon a small farm house “we’re here!” Midnight chimed as he opened the door. A dark blue bear cub ran up to midnight and hugged his leg “I missed you daddy” the cub said. I looked at the cub. “daddy, Starsky went to sleep.” Midnight looked at me “Dynavwryn this is Some” “Some, Dynavwryn he has come to visit us” Midnight said happily. I waved and looked around the room “how quaint” I whispered to myself.

"hello Dynavwryn!" Some said shaking my paw. I tilted my head and looked a Some “you’re…. interesting.” He smiled "I am” he giggled happily as he smiled sweetly.

All this…happiness. It was unnatural. It felt like they were covering something up. The room vibrated with negative energy, but they were happy! It baffled me as to how they could act this way. The spiritual pressure was so thick that I could barely breath. I had to get out of that house.

"well don’t just stand there come in" Midnight said happily. I almost choked “…midnight, can I show you something?” “"sure you may" Midnight said smiling happily. “ok…grab my paw” I said, having noticeable breathing problems. When midnight grabbed my paw I closed my eyes. A white light emanated from my core and engulfed me, spread up Midnight’s arm and engulfed him. We both disappeared from the house and reappeared in the forest, on the path were I first saw the mushrooms.

I collapsed onto my paws and knees, breathing deeply. “ you see this path?” I asked after I caught my breath. “I do” Midnight replied curiously “what’s with the mushrooms?” “they light the way, but don’t eat them, they are poisonous.” “we have to walk up this path” I said pointing in the direction of my mansion. We started walking and soon arrived upon my mansion “this is were I live” I said proudly.

Midnight was deep in thought as he looked at the house all busted up "may I go inside? "Midnight said softly. “please come in” I said. I ran up the railing of a fallen staircase and leaped over and 8 foot gap the top of the stairs. “want to see my room?” I asked delightfully. Midnight nodded and jumped up the stairs. We walked down the hallway and turned a corner. We past a doorway that you can see the backyard and the kitchen due to the fact that the back half of the mansion had collapsed. (I went on a rampage and collapsed half of the building, but I won’t spoil it for you). We walked into the nursery and I turned to Midnight “this stuff was here when I found the mansion.”

Midnight gulped and sniffed “it smells like baby powder in here… do you like living here?” I picked up some teething keys and put them in my maw, taking them out shortly to reply “it suffices.” "you have a great vocabulary for someone as young as you" he said smiling as he took the keys out of my maw.
