Should I have spoken up?
« on: March 29, 2010, 02:41:59 PM »
The other night, my neighbors were having a party or sorts.  When one of the guests arrive two people came out of the vehicle:  An older, able bodied, woman.  And another older woman, only this one seemed to have some mental and definably some sort of physical issues, judging by her walker.  She began to come towards me, who was working in the garage.  The other person then decided that some very profane verbal abuse would bring her back, but the words fell on deaf ears (literally or not I haven't a clue, but I'm going to assume that she was not hard of hearing).  So she sort of throttled the woman with the walker and jerked her to face towards the house they were going to.

Personally, I feel that even the saying what she said was far out of line.  But to go ahead and toss somebody around to try and get a point across?  Excuse me if you must but that makes my blood boil.  I wanted to say something, but didn't.  Do you think that I should have?  I personally respect elderly people at all times, no matter what the circumstance's, and seeing them treated poorly and disrespected by other people makes me very sad to see.

Thank you for reading all of this, any and all comments are appreciated.

I agree with you, and I as well would have been quite upset, but... there is very little anyone could do with out proof of such actions towards the woman. It's kinda like dang if you do, and dang if you don't.

Should have? Yes
Would I have, or anyone else in your position? Probably not. The idea of talking to random strangers is a step too far for most people. Chastising them, definitely so. We live in such isolated social groups that people don't really reach out to others. This counts for most people I know.

"And are you?"
"No, and that's where it all comes apart I suppose""
"Pity, it seemed like such a good lifestyle..."

Personally, I'd have said something, but again, you can never be sure on who someone is and what they are capable of. I would have been so angry I wouldn't have thought twice about throttling the person mentioned above for it. But it would have probably lead to a large amount of trouble on my end.

I would have.

My generally intimidating garb is used only for good! 0:)
I'm guessing the mystery girl is some kind of root vegetable.

What would it have done if you said something?
It would've only started trouble.
