I see what you're saying but usually about the only thing I miss from an IDE is the text colouring. And seeing as 2 out of the 4 text editors I use all support text colouring and are capable of recognising the most commonly used language and syntax...*shrugs*
IDE's are too messy for my work, which is usually only small projects and scripts. For compiling several .c files or keeping track of things an IDE is ideal but certainly in my situation a good text editor and a shell to work from (one of my editors allows you to embed a shell in the editor to test your code) is exactly enough.
