my friend who i have only known for 2 yrs now thinks iam obsessed with the fandom

this is still buging me from yesterday

i need some help here becuse i dont know if is should end this friend ship or just see or talk to him less. from how hes going i want to hang out with more furrys in rl

 heres how the conversion

me: this girl who i think likes me from my collage, she  add me to fb but not sure.

me: if my mate likes me then she should be in to the fandom or support me and not be a h8er because for me it wouldnt work out if she h8s the fandom is not part of it or dose not support it.

It seems to me that he is exaggerating quite a bit. I hardly think that you will rise your future children (if you have any) as pups and tell them that their father is wolf and make them sleep in a cave and wear those power animal t-shirts with howling wolves, right? Would you introduce them to your friends as your pups? Furthermore, would you force this nickname onto your parents? Also, are you sure your mate would also call them this? Just a few things to think about if you worry about your kids being bullied.

In reality, kids look for any reason to pick on others and create a social status in the playground, so I wouldn't come and pick them up after school wearing a fursuit or anything like that, but do you really live your furdom life so heavily that it would affect them at all?

It's also true that you let your life be affected by what you read online and learn from others, but so does your friend. Every slang word he uses, every music he listens to that a friend showed him, all his clothes... it's just that it's more socially accepted.
Not to mention if he's religious somehow...

And if your mate is okay with being called a mate, then what does that really have to do with him? You're not calling him your mate, are you?

You also don't have to educate everyone you meet about furdom. If anyone is genuinely interested, wanting to learn rather than judge, it's great and open minded of them. But that won't always happen. And it's a price to pay. Just like I won't be able to get some jobs because of my tattoos and piercings. Sure, some of it can be removed and it's not as deep as being a furry, but it's a choice nonetheless. And you did yours. You should be happy for it and if your friend can't be at least a little supportive, I'd tell him how I felt about it if I were you.

No need to throw away a friendship just like that, but you should still tell him how you feel.

iam not going to raise them as wolfs or pups or make them where t shirts with wolfs on it and iam not going to induce them as my pups to friends. i wont force the nick name on my parents i know how it is to get building at school , i was trolled all the time. if my mate understands that iam like the word mate when refering to her then its all good just like one of my x's called me hun, and i wouldnt where a fur suit to pick them up from there school or a collar or ears and tail. i dont educate every one about the fandom my rl fb is also use as my furry account becuse i have anthony icywolf wolf on when ppl have asked what icywolf is i told them its my fursonia's name and iam a furry they said what then i ask them if they want to know about the fandom and they say yes so i tell em and he has talked to furrys on the net befor and they went the best to talk to dosnt very one let there life be affected from what we read or see

the resion why iam a huge support of the fandom is beacuse i never felt like i belonged any where till i joined the fandom now that i have a fell like i belong some where and thats why i would like to meet some other furrys

The best thing you can do by yourself, is tell him that you dont appreciate his comments and that he should get to know the real fandom, not the fake stereotype crap before he tries to make any comments about anything related to furries.

You know, I always see these threads about discrimination against furries or people's friends not accepting someone because they are furry, and the only thing I ever know how to respond with is "being furry has a social price tag, just like everything else." Just like Pilose said, things come with social price tags, (such as tattoos, piercings, hell, even down to your hair color) and you're just going to learn how to deal with it. By this I mean, there's just no denying that being furry is weird, but I mean, weird is not always a bad thing. It's just like if you decided to dye your hair some outrageous color and walk out in public -- It's weird, not necessarily wrong -- but you better be prepared to get some rude or curious reactions. That's just how people are.

Really all you can do is answer the questions people throw at you, and deal with their comments. The worst thing you can do is get mad and start defending it intensely, because it's no different than trolling online, some people make fun of you and do it just for a reaction, and when you respond, you're doing what they want. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can't let them get to you. The furry fandom is just like every other fandom, even down to sci-fi and anime; there are people mildly interested all the way to people who have fetishes based around the fandom, I just think the furry fandom catches the most hell because they get so defensive over it.

But, my point is, you can't just run around being a furry and not expect negative or odd reactions because it is not a normal every day thing.

thanks for the advice, ive added a new friend to my msn he knows iam a furry now, becuse i have it posted on there. to day when he saw me he called me icy. i just might meet up with some furrys after all at my school if people find out. if i do i can put up with being trolled.
