Strict NAT in relation to xbox live
« on: January 29, 2011, 08:26:53 PM »
Ok. I have recently signed up and purchased a gold membership for xbox live, However when I attempt to join or create a server it gives me a warning saying that my modems NAT is strict and that it may effect my online experience in terms of connecting to certain games. I have followed all the advice on the xbox live website but have not had any success and would appreciate any suggestions.

also here is some additional information that may help:

-My modem was manufactured by speedtouch however I am unaware of the specific model

-My xbox is connected to my modem via a wired connection and there is only one socket for the modem to connect for a device e.g. my xbox or computer

-I have activated upnp and opened the recommended ports

-My firewall is set to allow xbox live to function without hindrance although I will check if this is actually working later today

If possible I would find it helpful if anyone has any suggestions or if they think these problems are going to be difficult to fix and may be more easily repaired by purchasing a new modem.

Thanks eitherway!  X3

Try to first disconnect every single device connected to the router (if you got 1 box only, then this should be built into the modem)..
Then pull out all chords from all boxes (modem, router, etc..).
Then put the chords back in and wait for them to boot back up.. Do not connect any devices yet.. and make sure nothing will connect to the modem/router, except for each other..
Now try connect the Xbox.

If this wont work:
Try go into the router configuration menu, and try find a setting called "NAT".. if you can find any, try disable it.. then reboot the router
Then go back in and re-enable it..

I know this iis old..but there was no answer and I know the solution.

What model is your router? and what brand?

because I had the EXACT same problem...and it was the router itself....it wouldn't allow people to change the NAT Settings...and it was always set to strict...I replaced my outer (because it died) and now my NAT is open and I can switch between what  I want.

it's most likely the router itself. even more so if it's a Wireless D-Link Xtreme G router (As that's the one I had when I had that problem)

I now own a D-Link Wireless Xtreme N router..(White one with 3 anntenaes on it)

unless you've already solved it.
