Hello from a lurker of the fandom

Hello, The Furry Forums! Not much to say in this "hello there" bit, so I'll just move on.
I was a long time sufferer of furry-denial. I kept telling myself that I wasn't a furry, up until the point when I realized that I was browsing furaffinity, lurking on /r/furry, and creating a anthro tulpa, so i just decided to man-up and accept my place in the fandom. Speaking of my place in the fandom... I don't really have one. I've never been to a convention, I can't draw, I don't even have a fursona, really. I plan to change all of these things, but for now, I'm just an unqualified guy who wants to become more active in the community. I have a particular interest in roleplaying, but again, no fursona. If anyone has any furry must-do's that I can do for free from a laptop (cheapskate, I know) I'd love to hear from you! Uh... Goodbye, I guess?

The only requirement to be a furry is that you have to want to be a furry. Everything else is optional.

The only thing to be a furry, like Winged Zephyr basically already said, is to say you are one. You don't need to have a fursona and whatnot to be a part of the furry community by the way. However, I do understand that you seemingly want to be more emerged in the furryness and the fandom. So by all means, join in on the fun

Some people take years, if not their whole lifetime creating/changing their fursona. Some are simple and some are more complicated. But all look pretty amazing in my eyes

Also, I don't usually sue my actual fursonas to roleplay with. I often come up with other anthropomorphic characters. I see a fursona as something close. More like a furry persona, which is basically what it means. So yeah

Thanks!   As you can see, I've started developing my fursona using the "I guess that sounds okay" method.  Not very "professional" (professional fursona-creation?    I dunno.) But who's keeping score?

Welcome to the forums!    Don't worry at all about how your fursona is or whether it's "professional" or not, it's yours and yours alone to do whatever you want with.    I hope you have a wonderful time here!
