Hello!

My name is Belladonna and I am have been working on a musical about furries for a little while now. Actually I wouldn't say that it is "about furries" I would say I am using the furry concept to examine how society treats "outcasts" and trying to show that someone you think is super different than you might not actually be that different. Showing how everyone feels love, feels alone. wants to be loved, etc.

I know that people very often mock furries and I want to write a musical that shows furries as real people. I want to create furry characters that people who may not be furries can identify with, therefore creating more of an understanding. Empathy! Yay!I myself am not a furry and a couple of years ago mocked a furry I met. I have since felt a lot of guilt and began writing this to gain a greater understanding. Because I am not a furry myself I don't know what its like to be a furry and I don't want to misrepresent the fandom. If anyone feels comfortable answering these questions I have it would be much appreciated. I am sorry if any of them sound ignorant, I am trying to not be ignorant, so please be patient with me, I want to understand so that I do not write a musical that is offensive to furries, but a musical that furries might be able to identify with.

1. How did you become a furry? Were you always a furry? Was there an event in your life that led you to become a furry?-- I am SUPER interested in this.
2. Does it ever feel isolating being a furry? What I mean is it ever difficult to socialize with other furries face to face besides going to conventions? I know that many people are not accepting of furries, so can that be difficult? Does anyone feel like their primary honest social interactions exist on the internet?
3. Have you ever faced discrimination for being a furry? What was that like?
4. I know the fandom is very different from bestiality, but is there anyone who is part of the fandom who is into that? Have you ever met anyone like that?
The reason I asked is because one of the character ideas I am playing with for my musical is someone who was attracted to animals once they hit puberty, but really did not like that the animals could not give verbal consent, so they found the furry community and settled for that. Is that realistic at all?
5. Would you compare coming out and telling friends you're a furry to coming out as gay?
6. What is the most common misconception about furries you hear?
7. I know its not sexual for everyone, but what percentage of people would you say are into furry fandom in a sexual way?
8. Anything else you'd like to add?

I know there are other furry musicals, but I am trying to write something different.

Thank you!

Again, I really am trying to learn, present furries in a realistic, unoffensive (to furries) way.
