Getting my first job/earning money need advice
« on: July 21, 2015, 08:38:45 PM »
Ok so I want to get a job so I can finally be able to buy my own things and save up for more expensive things like a fursuit and a trip to a con next year, any advice on how to get started? Please note that I don't currently have a car so rides to and from work would be hard,I was thinking cheap art commisions could help but I don't see that being too profitable.
Looking for other  furries to befriend :) Also I make cute art and I obviously love anything cute so if you have any cute pics then send them!

unless you're amazing at art and i mean amazing it is hard to make a profit from it, but dont let me stop you from trying it anyway you might make a litle money from it. my advice is start small and work your way up, i dont know your age so its kinda hard to tell you what you can do but jobs like working behind a bar or in a kitchen stuff like that are always hiring, hope this helps :P

being a Waiter is definitely a great place to start with for a first job. It can teach you basic time and management skills and teach you about personal appearance and public relations. Your income is also largely based on how well you deal with customers.

Write up a CV and send it to local restaurants. the closer the better.

Commissions are good way to get [some] money but yeah not the best way.

Being a waiter would be good! There's always plenty of those "minimum" wage-like jobs that you can do if you become desperate, like cashier or working for a fast-food place.

If you have had no current work experience your CV should probably be just one page. Avoid using phrases like "Great speaker", "Can take responsibility", "Good organizer", etc, because anyone can (and probably has) already got that on their CV. You want your CV to stand out, so think of anything that you've done that may demonstrate that you're a great speaker (perhaps you won a public speaking competition, or even just competing in one is cool), perhaps you had to organize something, etc. Don't worry if the achievement or job isn't related to your profession, because it still displays you are active and have done things.

The whole point of getting a job is to make yourself stand-out and do that any way you can, perhaps instead of mailing the CV to your occupation, give it to them in person, ring them up, be personal with them. Make sure they know your name and you'll be more likely to stand out from the other candidates.

When you look for a job, you can use websites and stuff to get find your job, but it might also be a good idea to go to local stores around your neighbourhood, if you have theaters, restaurants or shops a-like, just while shopping there maybe ask the owner or cashier if there are any job openings there that you could apply for. It's all about getting out there and actually doing stuff
