This sort of branched off from my topic in the rants forum. I used to be a bit insecure about drawing and liking fat characters. I have always been kind of worried about what people might think of me, so I ended up not uploading a lot of my drawings of fat characters. Lately I've been trying to embrace it a bit more. I'm still trying to keep things clean and tasteful and I'm still a little insecure though, but I'm a bit more open-minded about it.
One of the ways I've been doing this is with my Pokemon fanfic Mightyfats. It's a story about an absurdly fat Raticate
who wants to make a name for himself in life. He trained his body to be huge and strong, able to withstand almost any blunt damage and gain a resistance to other types of damage. ...But because to everyone else he was just another fat loser, he was pushed away from everyone he tried to bond with. The only friend he had was a Chansey who works at an inn.
...Until he met Master Tuumba, a colossal Snorlax (Fat-themed Pokemon story, what do you expect, of course it's going to have Snorlax in it) who runs a Rescue Team known as the Mightyfats, a group of all-fat Pokemon just like Ricky who have trained themselves to be both strong and heavily resistant to damage. ...However, Ricky finds out that even with his new group, life is hard. The Mightyfats are only a normal ranked group and are constantly antagonized by a morbidly obese Drowzee with strong hypnosis powers who is driven around on a forklift by his friend Casey. Not to mention, they have other obstacles to overcome, such as setting the record straight on their overall image.
Things to take into consideration:
-This is a kid friendly story. There is no swearing and there will only be one death in the story... which will probably be taken seriously.
-Remember, it is a fat-themed story, so expect the characters to talk about being fat and use their bellies in certain, light-hearted ways. I'm trying not to go overboard with it, so if it feels like I went too far, let me know.
-This story does NOT sugarcoat being fat, however, as the characters will often mention that they have a shorter life expectancy than normal Pokemon. They are more or less glorified Sumo Wrestlers.
-I'm also trying to go for funny and light-hearted. I mean that it's an action story, but there's a little bit of comedy to it as well.
-The third chapter will be uploaded tomorrow. After that, I will take a one-week break to visit my grandpa, and afterwards I will continue the story like normal.
-Most of all, let me know if I'm going too far with the fat theme. Constructive criticism is always helpful.
I don't know why, but I think Raticates are adorable. Their face isn't much to look at, but their teensy-weensy arms and their desperate attempt to look mean and fearsome is just too cute.
