Art stuff for my unnamed fursona.
« on: May 18, 2016, 01:08:54 AM »
HELLO ALL! I have been out of drawing for a while and got back into it a few days ago. I am new to the Fandom as a few of you may know but I do have a fursona design I like but I don't have a name. any suggestion on how to pick a name or what you think a name might be for this character? I only have one version of the head that I like and I'm working on everything else rn. Constructive criticism is welcome!!

Well, what kind of character trait does your fursona have? Doe it represent you? Do you like simple or complicated names? Should it be one name or consisting of a first (, middle) and last name?
You could use random name generators, or try to find if there us any things you like, name your character after it, or name it based on a thing. (Think of hobbies, colours, foods, drinks, etc. Anything goes.) Or if there is a language you like, see if you can translate any words to that language, see what comes out?
Or does your character represent a certain element, emotion, or anything else?

Try to see if any of these answers help you in a way to come up with a word or name, something that you feel makes a connection to your character :)

And do you still want to receive constructive criticism on the drawing you made?

I hope it indeed helps ^^

Well, I see you're trying to draw a wolf head?
What kind of art style are you going for? More realistic or more cartoony?
Eitherway, if it's realistic, have a lot of references (links ) open when you draw, pictures of wolf heads. Drawings, but ESPECIALLY photographs of actual wolves. It gives some guidance ^^
Trace a few photographs as practise, get a feel for the thing you want to draw.

Here are some examples you could use to help wih practising:
Tutorial 1
Tutorial 2

Hope these help ^^

Thanks Ventus! Actually I am going for a toony version but it turned out more realistic than I would have liked.

Actually, I think it looks rather toony ^^
So you got that right. Well with the toony style you can still use those references, I would highly suggest you do. Things that indeed make a drawing/character look more toony-ish are things like:
Larger eyes, toony-nose (like the way you drew it is very good ^^), the general proportions are a bit exaggerated of the head.

I can show you some various examples of a toony-style, hopefully these will help. It really depends what kind of toony style you're going for, but yeah ^^
Toon Wolf 1
Toon Wolf 2
Toon Wolf 3
Toon Wolf 4

That, and look up loads of references of the animal and the style you want to draw, that's always a huge tip that I think would help the most :)
And of course loads of practise ^^

Thanks for the links and advice Ventus! I have finals next week and after I finish I have to wait for everyone else to finish before I leave so there should be plenty of time to draw and get some practice
