How to be happy when you're sad
« on: May 18, 2016, 02:44:07 PM »
So first off, I noticed how this board was called "Rants & Advice", and while I saw a lot of rants, and people seeking advice, I never really saw anyone just loosely giving out some advice for the people that needed it. Some may have, and I just hadn't noticed, but that doesn't matter.
So! I know that a lot of people out there, and on this forum, have times when they're sad. That's just how life is, it's inevitable. But, when you have those moments when you're sad, you can make yourself happy again... but it can be pretty hard. Trust me, I know the feeling of just not wanting to do anything, go anywhere, or talk to anyone. But in the end, I've always found that being happy is always much nicer than being sad or mad.
Therefore, I've compiled a list of the things that helps me out a little when I'm feeling down. These are things that I've learned myself through experience, or heard from various youtubers. Keep in mind, that these things are for when someone in your life has made you sad/treated you unfairly/bullied you. I can't promise that this advice will help you either, but I'm just putting it out there, since I feel like I have to. So, enough blabbering!

1. Simply put on a smile!
When I'm sad or mad, I find it that just physically smiling a bit can make the situation a little better. Maybe stand in front of a mirror, and smile to your reflection, only to see it smiling back. I don't know if the brain gets a sensation that you must be happy, or something, but I've always found myself to think more positively whenever I smile.

2. Think of some good things going on in your life!
It being something you're looking forward to, some place you're going to, something you're good at, or something you enjoy doing. If you fill your brain with positive thoughts, it will usually block out the negative thoughts in the process. Trust me, I know, it's not always easy to think of positive things when you're sad, but if you try, and manage to do it, it turns out not to be so hard after all.

3. Do something you're good at and enjoy!
If you're good at playing video games, writing stories, roleplaying, playing instruments, try doing some of those things. And while you do it, try to think of how good you actually are at it. You will feel as you're not that lame after all, and that you are actually pretty good at something!

4. Learn to laugh at yourself!
We all make mistakes. It's unavoidable, it happens to everyone. But still, when we do, we can feel pretty embarrassed, awkward, or disappointed in ourselves. But hey: You make mistakes as much as the next guy, and vice versa, so it's not anything to fear. When you make a mistake, try to just laugh it off, and you'll see that it isn't as awkward as it seemed it would be.

5. Be independent!
A thought came to me yesterday, when I was feeling sad about my classmates behaviour towards me. And that thought was: "Am I seriously gonna be sad over some people? No! That's ridiculous!". You are just as important and valuable as the people around you, and it may just be kinda hard to see that, when you're feeling down. If someone is bullying you verbally... then let them. Why should it touch you? They're just wasting their time yelling at someone who aren't faced by it, right?

Bullying has been here fore a long time, and is not gonna stop. It's pretty sad, but that's just how life is. So rather than trying to stop bullying, I feel like I could give some advice on how to deal with it, instead. As I said before, these are just some things that I do to make myself feel better, so I can't promise it'll help you. But I just felt like putting it out there for people that could actually use this, and feel better. So, I hope I did my job, and I did it well! But I hope even more that all of you awesome people will have a fantastic day! ^_^
