Does anyone have diabetes? How do you deal with it?

I'm asking because my mother has just been diagnosed with diabetes (don't know which type) How do you deal with it if you know someone?

My Mom Had Diabetes,

My Uncle and Grandma have it also and I might get it soon.

Found out how severe the type is. Three is Very bad, Two is Mild, and One is very Mild.

First thing First she needs to eat more protein: Peanut butter, Fish, Meat, Sweet Potatoes.

and Lower her intake on anything with Sugar or Carbohydrates.

Heres a Good Website: [ http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/complications_control/ ]

You should also ask her Doctor what she should do though :3

She now knows what to do. I don't. Should I do anything to help her with it?

Mmm.

If she takes pills always remind her when to take them.
Remind her to Check her Blood Sugar every day, Three times a day: Once in the morning BEFORE she eats, in the Evening, and At night before she sleeps.

Watch what she eats. With every meal she should atleast be eating something with protein in it.

My mother and grandfather do. I think they have Type Two... could be Type One. I probably will get it eventually, considering which half of the family I get my genes from and whatever...

Life has pretty much just moved on after they were diagnosed though. My parents don't keep as much "snack food" around the house, and I try to be nice and not say things like "this is sooo good" or "I've been craving this" when I eat something they can't eat.

one of my great uncles died of a diabetic stroke because he didn't check his blood sugar often enough, make sure your mom checks hers often.
Wow have things changed...
